SBW to sign for the Dragons?

Recommended Posts

Why? Hate to say it, but in the limited action we saw before Covid shut everything down he gave me the impression of being a guy who had spent too long away from the sport and was getting to be a little too old to be able to recapture his past glories. Another PR move?

Not me mate, although I have to say my biggest worry was not his age, but the fact that he had been away from RL for too many years.

Sorry , he’s been a great but I hope not . He’s not pulled up any tiny saplings in what we’ve seen , never mind trees . And that’s a huge step up . Recapturing years gone by is a big ask . Dragons should never have needed any replacement for De Belin anyway , his treatment has been a disgrace

Until I read the article I thought it meant Catalan Dragons 😂

My initial thought too! Now what does that say about our perceptions of SL recruitment?

Have to agree with you, from what little he played looked a shadow of his former self time as you say may well be catching up with him.

Gubrats got it spot on, too many years in union, coming back to League after so much time away from the game is tough on the body. He might get away with it if he was surrounded by talent, but that was not the case at TWP!

Sorry, I can't agree with the consensus opinion on here, Sonny Bill William is a fantastic rugby player and still more than capable of cutting it in Rugby League.

It seems that he may be returning to the NRL after being offered a short term contract by the Roosters.  It would appear that Trent Robinson sees something in him that this forum doesn't.

I think SBW's attitude towards playing in the NRL might be a bit different to what it is currently. It absolutely shouldn't be, but think it might.

Would love to see him turn out for the Warriors (if he doesn't stay in SL). Would be a great story, initially.

And as I said if he were surrounded by talent he gets the chance to play an impact role, the Roosters have plenty. Toronto on the other hand needed him to be “the guy”, and he’s not that any more.

I was disappointed with the way he played for Toronto in his few games to date.

He put in a decent shift in defence but didn't seem to want to put up his hand and do the hard yards with the ball. For a player that was probably the biggest and most intimidating player on the pitch, it was disappointing.  He seemed to want to be a 17st half back.

What we don't know is how much of that is instruction/game plan and how much is a lack of desire. I hope the former as I would expect the best (not to mention highest paid) player to try his guts out.

Maybe if he joins the NRL we will see a different approach taken.
