Maybe you should step back and look at the impression you give of yourself.

Talking about RL on an RL forum? Seems a bit of an odd complaint. Fair dos if I was banging on about it on mumsnet or the Labour online policy forum but jeesh.

What did I tell you all ?

A 9 round UK only mini comp with all 45 games televised and a 3 game play off

But would you all listen ? No , now look where we are ? 🙄😤😱😷🤔☠️

To be fair Gub I didn't disagree. I was advocating a new competition too (though different to yours naturally 😉 )

A major problem with this whole restart is the insistence of the game to try to run a continued league season with as many games as possible after 30th September.

There are plenty of Championship players available to sign on loan if clubs need to bolster their squads, after all, that’s exactly how dual registration was sold to us, Championship players can be given a chance in Super League. Any missed fixtures need to be caught up midweek or on a Challenge Cup weekend.

These players will not have been in anything like the sort of isolation that the SL players have been under. They could easily, and unwittingly, bring the virus into the squad.

That's where I a) think there needs to be more testing (immediately after games being an obvious addition as well as the day before) and b) is why this needs a more serious approach. 1 player being lax could risk the whole competition - hence Fifita being stood down. We need to be able to pin point the infection date so that clubs can play on. Its precisely to protect clubs that this should be happening.

We've also not had a proven case of transmission in a match itself. As far as we can tell players have picked the virus up independently or from eachother. Regardless, despite the relatively large number of cases we've had, we've not had team to team transmission suggesting the potential scenario you cite as an unlikely.

It isn't so easy as people think though. The incubation period is anything from 48 hrs so immediate testing after a game would only tell you that players were infected before they played. I agree that there is no proven transmission from contact in games; there are also very few vectors of any proven transmission. In other words even the experts are guessing at times, but their guesses are surely more informed than ours.

As they say, the numbers of infection and epidemic specialists on the internet has increased exponentially since the coronavirus problem emerged.

But to be infected you have to have come into contact with an infectious person (ie someone who has it after incubation period).

Thats to say by testing after the game we'd know if an infectious person was playing which would then give us greater awareness of the possible results of the subsequent testing on the Tuesday following the game for his team mates and the opposition. Which at least gives us a week's advance warning rather than a day or two.

If nobody was infectious immediately after the game, logic would stand that the game would be declared clear and any positive test midweek as unrelated? To take the current example, if all the Warrington and Wakefield players tested negative after the game, no Warrington players would have to self-isolate because of a Wakefield player testing positive 3 days later.

For lots of reasons you continue with the normal season with postponements & rearrangements accepted as one of those things with the aim of completing as much of the regular season as possible ahead of the deadline for the play offs. This would be with an acceptance that players can play 2 matches per week but not every week.

Any odd number of fixtures will result in an average points per game used to calculate final positions

Come the play offs then you look to “bubble” the qualifying clubs and/ or increase the frequency of testing

The bottom line is that the sport has been fantastically flexible so far and just cannot afford to not fulfil its Sky contract

Nobody fully understands Covid 19 and the fact that the people now catching it/ testing positive do not appear, in the main, to be having as severe symptoms as seen earlier this year with the reasons unknown is one example of a global lack of knowledge so flexibility has to continue and is a major reason why nobody can be definitive on what should or could happen

All players are tested weekly

Championship players currently aren't as they are not back in training. That is my point - you can't just draft in Championship players to a SL club (unless you are already their nursery club that is 😉 ).

Could they play some of the postponed game as Curby? It is socially distant and you can allow fans to watch from surrounding bedroom windows? Win win.

Please - Kerby.  From the noun "kerb".   Not the verb "curb".

This seems the most sensible way to proceed for the SL season. Re-arrange matches where possible so long as no week contains more than one midweek fixture then use a points-per-game/ percentages system to determine final league positions should any fixtures not be able to be re-arranged. The playoffs only covers two weeks now so it should be possible to put the top four into a bubble to ensure that the semis and GF can take place as per the Sky contract.

The only place where forfeiture may need to come in for fixtures that couldn't happen would be the Challenge Cup (or the most recent SL fixture result between the two clubs could be used to award passage). In the event of the final being affected then it would need to be re-arranged though, this could be done the week after the GF if necessary.

The important thing with regard to how the competitions proceed is that the protocols to be followed in the event of games being unable to be re-arranged are decided upon and publicised ASAP so that everyone knows what will happen as further postponements look inevitable.

I think that is a key worry coming out now. Too many games in too short a time period is massively damaging to the players and the spectacle. Kev Brown highlighted this on the most recent 5 Live RL Podcast.

Ironically with the postponements Leeds have gone from playing 4 games in 2 weeks to having a 13 day break between games. I don't think any of this is ideal really.

It’s not a worry but more of an issue to manage

The Challenge Cup does bring a few other issues but again it can be managed. Exceptional times requires altered thinking at times

Well, I'm worried. For RL but also in general. Cases have been steadily rising since early July. We never got cases down to a properly low level. We are now sending kids back to school (we have to do this in my view), students are off to uni and the gubmint wants all the work shy home workers like myself to go back to their offices. It's a recipe for disaster.

I still hold a ticket for the challenge cup final in theory....

That is true, but hospitalisations (and deaths) in RL and in general now are miniscule compared to what they were.

I think this is exactly right. I think we should try and agree a minimum number of fixtures we should get each game to, and we crack on and complete as many as we can.

I think there are a few miseries around, the Rugby has been very very enjoyable. We are doing the best we can - do as much as we can to keep people safe and play as many games as we can.

That's true as well.   But the reason for that isn't clear.   Is it masks and social distancing ?   Is it the virus getting weaker ?   Is it better medical treatment ?

Nobody knows yet.
