There’s a decent side there somewhere in Hull. Sneyd on the left, Connor on the right. Decent strike on the edges. Powerful pack. Talented kids coming through.

A good coach could do a lot with that.

They have show this.... but without any great consistency.

Their defensive performance could do with a tweak like but wouldn't take a deal.

Both hull sides have been worth the watch since resumption despite the results.

I think the sky commentators decided to make Powell tonights agenda from start to finish.  Bordering on obsessive at times.  Cant remember responses to other coaches like this (Wane for example when regurlarly critisising refs for not protecting Sam Tomkins).

If I was Powell I would step away from interviews with sky for the rest of the season.  Let one of the assistants do it and instruct them to give maximum 3 word answers.

Is it not part of the Sky contract that coaches are interviewed post-match?

Nah... she like the rest are looking for controversy.

As for Cas, they are missing their small ground.  Missing home advantage.

I take back my last comment. Ive just read on BBC it was at Wheldon Rd!

Apologies all round but generally its been at Leeds and various Lancs grounds untill now.  So no excuse for Cas then, although in hindsight I should have known given the easy way both teams got to the 10m line.

Connor should have an extended run at fb, he can be the third pivot, rather than having all the pressure on him which he doesn't seem to thrive or excel under.

I missed the first 10 mins, so did not see he was playing full back.  So in the first half I was disappointed with him.  In the 2nd he was more involved.

I can see why you suggest fb, his try was similar the French's the other day.  He is errm a 'confident' player, so i hope he gets in the England squad, he would fit in to most back positions.  He has not quite dominated as much as has been expected.

Daryl is a nice bloke. He genuinely is.

But I think he looks ill. I've said this a couple of times, he looks dreadful at times.

I don’t know him so can only judge him on what he says and how he acts but happy to accept your view

If he is Ill I hope that someone is helping him

First offence by O Neil (late shot), Cator then runs to him and throws him on the floor (just on camera from one angle).  At that point the ref cant play the advantage any further as Hull have committed an offence which prevents O Neil defending.

Correct call was no try, Hull penalty for the 1st offence and possibly a card for O Neil.

Pretty simple as far as I can see.

Watching it on play back, so running a bit behind.

So after any late hit or off the ball foul play the offending team run in & start verbals or pushing & shoving so that any advantage to the other team, who will also run in, is negated?

The decision to play on & then to award the try along with just about every other decision the referee made last night was absolutely spot on

i dont think he was the entire game, just most of the second half.

but since he debuted against warrington for huddersfield, ages back, i've thought he was better suited to FB, everywhere else he just seems like a square peg in a round hole with a lot of expectation.

We've seen a lot of attempted fill ins at HB for wire since briers retired, so we're sort of experts on this stuff now, he'd be better at FB as an extra pair of hands.

I like Powell. He’s honest. He says what’s on his mind and he’s clearly as much of a fan of the game as you or I. If people are knocking him for an apparent “negativity” then I’m not sure how some people read this place because it’s a swill of negativity as well. The game isn’t perfect and I don’t think anyone, whether that’s a fan, player or coach should be pushing positivity at all times, it’s false and it’s really not helpful.

There’s issues across the game. The number of games players are expected to play and the number of games in such a short period of time is extreme. Yes, we need to do as much as we can to get this season finished in as a professional way as possible but Powell’s calls for more subs and/or extra interchanges was something I was surprised we didn’t take on, ala how Football did.

Refereeing is a bug bear of most people and Powell is no different. Rose tinted specs he may have, however, the inconsistency in decision making is frustrating. I’m not talking about stuff we see sat at home after endless angles of replays slowed down to a snails pace, it’s impossible to expect a referee to see them at normal speed but what does annoy me is a lack of the same decisions going against both sides. I will use Saints v Wigan as an example. Yes, I’m a Saints fan but no, there’s no bias here. Jonny Lomax camped on Wigan’s line played the ball incorrectly. Correct decision from Thaler. However, the following set by Wigan saw no Wigan player touch the ball with their foot and for most of the game, both teams didn’t play the ball properly. Why was that picked up then but not any of the hundreds of other times? I can see how it would frustrate a Head Coach massively.

That said, I can’t see a way Sky can continue to employ Wells. The Sky team, like them or not, are their to criticise when the time is right and they, or more specifically Wells, cannot do that to his Head Coach.

Only recent example I can recall involved Hicks in the Catalans v Wakefield .  Micky Mac gave someone a headshot and Hicks instantly blew for a penalty to Wakefield.  Pitts came flying in and pushed Mac causing a session of handbags.  Hicks reversed the penalty and also sin binned Pitts.  Catalans scored from the set following.

I take the points.  Personally I get furious when a Wigan player does not play the ball properly, penalised or not, because there is no excuse. Obviously i am annoyed when an opponent gets away with it.

The ref has a lot to look at.

Dont get me started about stripping or not stripping and plain losing the ball.

Rulemakers are set on speeding up the game. Its making refs job harder, more hair line decisions happening at a quicker pace.  And rules are putting tackles higher and less round the legs.  And because of pace and elusiveness we are getting tackles round the necks.

I dont think the ref should let play go on as theirs been an infringement by both teams, for me its no different to a knock on both ways. The Cas player being the first to do something means that he should be penalised, but the fact is the Hull player has also broken the rules so the ref should stop play.

Ok I see your logic but every foul will then result in a “flare” up by the offending team to stop advantage ever being played

Connor went to full back when Ben McNamara came on for the injured Kieran Buchanan after about 15 minutes. Hull looked a better side from that moment onwards. The introduction of Sao and Satae didn't do any harm either.

McNamara making his debut is at least one exciting thing about this game. Him in the halves and Connor at FB is how we should have started this game tbh.

What an accomplished debut it was too. He really looks the part.

If Powell did refuse to be interviewed, Sky would just make that the story instead.

The second offence was foul play, so play should've been stopped. You can't just grab someone and throw him around just because you have penalty advantage.

😂😂😂😂

That's different though.  Although penalty should have gone to Wake still for me in that instance (I remember watching it).

Issue last night wasnt the penalty award, for me it was a Hull Penalty (1st offence).  Ref played advantage, however Cator (who was the victim of the late shot) got to his feet, ran at O Neil and threw him on the floor.  At the point the advantage cant continue because Cator has committed an offence (one which had a clear impact on the defence, hence the walk over).  Quite happy for the advantage to be stopped and Hull to get a penalty but the rules are quite simple on the matter hence Powells frustration which sky homed in on.

TBF to the ref he asked the video ref to check it (who decided to award a try anyway).

Have you actually watched the incident properly?

Late hit O Neil

O Neil gets to his feet - as he does so he is watching the ball and retreating.   Takes about 3 steps back before Cator gets up and runs towards him, grabbing him and throwing him on the floor (hes retreating as Cator runs at him).

At this point there re Cator and 3 other Hull players within a couple of meters of O Neil.  The nearest Cas players (who are retreating to defend) are a good ten metres away.  Subsequently a couple of retreating Cas players come back to assist O Neil who is on the deck.

The second paragraph clearly highlights why you cant just continue with the advantage - the offending team didnt run in until a clear offence was committed by Hull.

Sky bordered on disrespect to Powell but his ref-bashing had got him into hot water, and that was the story most of us were talking about.

He deserved it after showing a lack of respect of officials in recent weeks. It was no better than some of the one-eyed tripe on here.

Anyway, he learned his lesson and buttoned it.

Have to agree to disagree.

As I understand it Powell had tried to speak to Ganson about 2 issues prior to last weeks interviews:

1) Late shots on his half backs, and;

2) Cards not been shown for squirrel grips and headbutts despite lengthy bans been issued

Both ligimate things, especially the second point imo.

As far as I can gather Ganson hasn't been forthcoming in discussing the matters.

Powell has a duty to protect his players and may have felt the media to be a way of doing it if the rfl weren't engaging in a conversation (Wane did something very similar in relation to Tomkins a few years back, although I think he threatened to have his forwards 'sort it' if the referees wont).   No doubt Powell was also frustrated at the result and this undoubtedly will have been a factor in his comments (although the result was potentially impacted by point one as a result of the injury caused to Richardson from a late hit the game before).

One thing i would note is that more penalties seem to have been awarded for late shots this week, so maybe his voice did fall entirely on deaf ears.

Have you actually read what I posted. Your claim of how to referee a game would result in every offending team causing a melee in order to stop the advantage.
Anyway it is clear that you will continue to, wrong defend, Powell no matter what so nothing more can be said & I will leave you to your theories
