A racist tweet gets a £250 fine and no ban from playing. What did Zak Hardaker get for his homophobic behaviour? I’d say the 2 are comparable.

Yeah, I read the link I’ve posted and was, for want of a better word, underwhelmed by the punishment.

Tbf, one was on the pitch in a televised super league game between 2 of the biggest clubs in a marquee fixture, the other was a loutish tweet of insinuations by a part time player not too dissimilar from things you can read anywhere online, including this very board might I add, who was followed by virtually no one. I don't think the two are really that comparable and as for a ban from playing I think thats a bit presumptuous for the next 18 months at least.

Indeed, plus one was direct abuse of a ref. That one should have been far more severe.

Racism shouldn’t be tolerated in any way in the game, whether it’s on the pitch or posting online. A £250 fine is simply not an acceptable punishment. Many posters on here could lose their job if they did something similar.

Interesting how Halifax have been quiet on this, unless I've seen them make a statement.

Do they still sing a song about peadophiles after matches?

We have all done some naughty things at some stage and even rugby league fans and players have.

I know I did when I completely lost my cool with a linesman after my team were continually not getting any decision and I called him a name that was what Germany was run by in the 1930s except a Neo one.

I did apologise on the club Facebook page for my actions

Hopefully Fax do have this problem under control and although it must be hard for part time players in that they are less known and probably think they can put what they want on social media, the fact is they are still representing a club and their views are going to paint that club in a certain way. The club should have cracked down on the Tommy Robinson tweets and such and although the players have now moved along stuff like that they should just stick to their private whatsapp groups  and have a bit more common sense when using social media.

There are a lot of rugby league players who post stuff I find disappointing, but probably not that unusual for young lads from some of the places they live and work in, particularly those who work in alpha male environments.

It does surprise me how many still have that 'man-up' style theme despite all the talk of mental health.

Absolutely, and punishment should be relative to both the crime and the individual being punished. £250 might be two match fees worth of wages (which he's not been paid this year).

What is the wording of what he actually tweeted .

Along the lines of "Look at where has the worst rates of infections (Leicester, West Yorkshire, East Lancashire), what do all these places have in common"

Exactly this. Given his likely income from the game, £250 doesn't seem too low a figure.

The bosses of some "anti-maskers" should really be having a word too.

Turns out plausible deniability lasts until about the second time you ask the follow-up, "I don't know, what do they have in common?" ...
