Yes, I'd make such comments against RFL social media policy and pursue accordingly.

What is the wording of what he actually tweeted .

I think, from memory, he quoted a tweet about the rates of infection in parts of Yorkshire and the North West with a comment along the lines of “and what are those places full of?”, to which Jermaine McGilvray, amongst others, pulled him up on and asked him to elaborate.

I thought so too

His wiki page - RL ones aren't always up to date owing to fewer editors than other sports - has him being a coach at Normanton.

He has been announced as a Halifax player for next year:

No statement from the player or club about the fine from what I can see, maybe mistaken on this.

That is ... not to put too fine a point on it ... exactly the problem.

Well spotted.

You would have a hard time understanding anything in life if we took this kind of stance ! People are scared to death of racism or right or wrong it seems

The difference is that the post removed had nothing to do with rugby.

Good to see the self-righteous thought police out in force again. If people are so offended by it, why not report it to the police, rather than try to ban him from rugby? Probably because it wouldn't get anywhere and so they're trying to politicise the game by proposing bans based on expressed opinions that don't match their political ideal.

Do you think he should have been sacked by Halifax?

I’m a Fax fan and I say yes he should

Im undecided on what should have been the outcome in regards to Halifax's stance but I am pleased that he volunteered for the course he went on as I don't think educating people is a bad thing. Maybe Halifax should look at their social media policy when it comes to players moving forward though. Saying that its not rocket science to most people that it would be a stupid thing to tweet.

Are you as a Fax fan comfortable with what they have done and happy for Barber to continue playing for them?

I'm not sure I think he should be sacked for this. Education, public apology, disciplinary action and a club statement to show how serious they take this stuff would show strong leadership.

Just sort of ignoring it and celebrating a new deal as he is getting punished is not strong leadership though.

The thing that concerned me at the time of this tweet from the point of view of RL was that it was picked up on and criticised by six or seven current players that I saw - and all of them were BAME guys. When you think of the tiny percentage of BAME players in the current game that stood out like a sore thumb  ie why were there not dozens of critical tweets from white players?

Im kind of neutral on if he should have been sacked or not, he's not a player that I really rate so Im not just saying that from a value to the team perspective. As for Fax, again apart from not putting out a final statement Im ok with how they have handled it although the timing of a new contract could have been delayed again just so it didn't coincide with the RFL statement. I would think that's just basic PR.

I think Fax may have run in to problems if they did decide to terminate his contract as although its easy to assume what he meant with the tweet, it might be difficult to prove if it ever went to a wrongful dissmisal claim or similar. Best course for me would have been a strong statement explaining about the player going on the course he went along with warnings about future conduct and a promise to improve behaviour at the same time.

I think this is it. Some kind of statement - any kind of basic acknowledgement - is literally all that was required. It's the quickest of quick wins.
