I don’t think any more as he’s relinquished the US citizenship that he held.

But there'd be no Obama-style birther conspiracies from the nutter tendency, what with him being white.

Let me never fall into the vulgar mistake of dreaming that I am persecuted whenever I am contradicted.

Why did he have to pick  English ?

I guess the fact that his granddad, Ted Croker, ran English football for decades might have been a factor?

Interesting childhood though - his mum left England to work for the Portuguese FA to promote Euro 2004, he got picked up by the Sporting Lisbon academy (which also produced Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Figo etc.) at the age of 9. His family stayed there until he was 16, when he stayed living at the football club and they came back to the UK.

I was thinking more the fact that if he didn’t we wouldn’t be able to pick him

He started his career at Sporting Lisbon. Was curious watching the most recent All or Nothing when he was having a conversation in Portuguese with Mourinho.

Looks like Portugal did actually ask him, but he had to wait a couple more years to be eligible and England u-17s got in first. I guess Southgate rates him more highly than you do 🙂

Could say the same about Johnson.....

He only stopped being a US citizen because the IRS came calling.

True story.

Aye, but he still paid up, despite blustering that he wouldn't. Renounced his citizenship afterwards.

We have a chain of bookstores in Canada called Chapters Indigo. All of the have a wall of names located near the escalators listing famous Canadians, many of whom are naturally assumed to be American because their careers were so successful in the US, people like John Candy, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Donald Sutherland, Jim Carrey and Ryan Reynolds. Sadly Justin Bieber is also on the list!

Tony Lewis, born Swansea, and Mike Denness, born Bellshill, Lanarkshire.  OK, not overseas, but not England either.
