Looks like the Origin players will agree to a lower fee for playing in the Origin games this season.

Players would previously have got $30,000 each per game, but there's a view that they have agreed to accept the lower figure of $10,000.

Members of each State's exrended squad will get $2,000 per week whileever they are in the bubble.

The NRL will save a lot of money if this turns out t be the case.

Do you like this season's set up of a stand alone Origin series?

it's come about this season because of Covid-19 and the changes that had to be made.

The general idea is to return Origin to the more normal mid year position and format.

However Peter V’landys has said they will review the situation according to how this stand alone format works out.

It’s always interesting how at times rep teams down there don’t get hung up on square pegs in square holes , but get their best and most potent players in and count on their quality and ability to do the job . We’ve tried that with much less success ...

Very strong side, and I’d agree with most picks. I’m a bit surprised Tupou got the nod over Cotric, although I do think he’s a better player. Gutherson at centre is an interesting one. I think he’ll do well, but I’d imagine NSW will target that side

I was waiting to see if Fittler would put his money where his mouth is and start with Walker, I thought he deserved a go. It`s just like Mundine vs. Fittler all over again, they just won`t pick the Black Fella in the halves.

I have to disagree. Walker has played halves in Origin last year and misfired. I like Walker but he can be quite inconsistent. Having him on the bench provides that X factor when needed. Keary and Cleary are the best halves going currently

They look at 'winning and losing' players in Origin selection:

Welch, Friend, Hess (QLD) and Saifiti, Jnr Paulo (NSW) and others as winners

Arrow, H Grant, Fotuaika (QLD) and Cody Walker, Dale Finucane (NSW) seen as losers.

Gutherson in the centres is an interesting move. He's a great player in top form and deserves a place in the team. His regular place is currently blocked by some quite well known bloke.

I am surprised he has gone with Gutherson at centre. Wighton was very strong at left centre last year and the Blues have a specialist right centre in Zac Lomax who has played pretty well all year.

So from being flush with fullbacks, Blues have now got concerns in that department and their options might shrink.
Teddy has got until Saturday to be declared fit to play with concerns over his knee problem.
Ryan Papenhuyzen it appears has been carrying a calf strain and he too will be tested on Saturday.

Putting Gutherson to full back and adding Lomax into the centre still has them stronger than Queensland in those spots for me.

Yes, though Teddy could be declared fit and Paps will likely be.

All the same that option you state seems like a strong one to me.

I like Lomax, he’s got freakish talent and outstanding potential but currently he’s got work to do on his defence to be a top centre. That said, when he’s up against Brenko Lee, that shouldn’t be a concern

Some changes from Origin 1:

Returning from suspension, Valentine Holmes has taken over the Maroons fullback role as one of four changes to Queensland’s starting 17 for Origin II.

Wayne Bennett brought in Holmes to cover the loss of AJ Brimson, while Jaydn Su’A will start in place of Cohen Hess, who has been dropped form the 21 all together.

Raiders star Dunamis Lui will make his debut after coming in for Christian Welch, who was ruled out with concussion at prop.
