Because they didn't get either funding or support. The only RL club expected to do so and still play on eh.

Something I said was wrong at the time , but that was the deal they accepted

Salford didnt fulfill theirs so kick them out?

Clubs seem to be refusing to play catalan so kick them out?

The lower leagues didnt fulfill the season so kick them all out?

In all seriousness though how did you forsee that all the SL clubs would go over and play in Toronto during a global pandemic when they cant even get to France to play?

Salford, Catalans, etc made an effort, TW just withdrew from the league.

The 'lower leagues' were cancelled. Some wanted to play, so do you let the ones who wanted to play in, and the ones who didn't out?

At what point in your life did you think that RL was at its peak?

2015, we aced that season, the decade or so before that was generally quite good too with a successful home World Cup and Super League.

Correct, just Argyle didn't expect the bottom to 'fall out' of the travel market.

I guess he saw his expected profits down the pan due to the travel restrictions.

I haven't and never will criticise David Argyle , just circumstances beyond his or anybodies control , but we are where we are now

Nice mate, but sorry I don’t know who you you follow. I asked about the game in general. Personally as a Wakey fan I thought the game was at its peak in the late 80’, early 90’s when GB gave the Ozzie’s some ding dong games in that 90 tour.?

From an attendance figure you are probably looking at the fifties, maybe early sixties.

So they’ll vote before they’ve decided on the criteria? Actually that wouldn’t surprise me at all.

Feel sorry for Argle, shouldn’t have been allowed in the first place, but someone should’ve had the balls to to tell him this before

Cheers mate, just trying to get an angle on his perspective as a fan. Like a Wigan fan lecturing a Doncaster fan on ,loyalty lol

Retrospectively, if I might be so bold, I think one of the reasons the late 80s early 90s internationals are remembered so fondly is bc the club game was so uninteresting for most people. The great glorified race for 2nd. Though clearly there were great moments. The 95 world cup was a clear highlight that was never really built upon by us (and I mean us as in the UK game, the roots of 95 and later 2000 were and are still felt much more in Australian sphere nations).

I think commercially and popularity wise in the past 50 years, the 15 years or so from the millennium have been the best for our game. Its seen commercial and crowd growth, increased competition for the top honours, successful expansion of the league into France and a massive increase in most measurable standards across the board (generally that is, with a few notable exceptions). There has also been the reestablishment of a regular world cup and a growing international scene at all levels also.

In the 50's and 60's there was little TV coverage, so you will find most record attendances for a club in those decades, although wakeys record attendance was in 1929.

These were days when there was little attention paid to safety, hence Fev's record in 1959 of 17,500.

So my support of pro RL has no value ?

Thanks for that , how much a year do you put into RL in the UK ?

You can still support Rugby League. Do people who support Keighley for example only support them because they have a miniscule possibility of gaining promotion to SL?

So you are fine with licensing at tier 2 but not at tier 1?!?!

How odd....

Which team do you support and does this have anything to do with this very odd double standards?

The difference is quite stark, there are lots of teams who’d like to get promoted into SL, there are none who would like to be promoted into L1.

I support Saints, but consider myself a fan of the game more than a one club die hard. Who I support isn’t relevant.

No, but I bet fewer people would watch them if there was no chance they’d ever get out of L1.

Only thing that will restore some credibility now is a solid 3 year plan I would suggest.

* League must run with 12 teams next season Toulouse would be a good call

* Clubs with poor facilities are given 2 years to bring them up to scratch or goodbye (Tigers/Trinity)

* If they have to bring  back licensing it has to be 14 teams and I would suggest starting 2023

Exactly & if you think they’re gonna take an interest in East 17 in what we’re doing up here, you are gassed mate. Out of interest, could you please tell us your age is & what point in your life Do you think RL has been at its peak?

Are East17 still going? Fair play.

We'll never know, but I have no doubt that there must have been plenty of private conversations between David Argyle and Robert Elstone leading up to TWP's withdrawal.

I'm sure that Argyle would have been well aware of Elstone's loathing for the club and for his predecessors legacy. He has (from day one) had great difficulty in concealing his abhorrence of the concept of a Canadian club and the runaway success of the club in terms of its popularity here and particularly in Canada, made it doubly difficult for him to grin and bear it.

The advent of the global pandemic provided him with a golden opportunity, when the turmoil wreaked by this germ, on Argyles finances must have laid him low, but I'd bet it was Elstone's sneering, hateful attitude that was the straw that ultimately broke the camels back.

How do you explain years of financial issues at Toronto that included players not being paid on time and other associated bills not being paid and Toronto taken to court?

Because of all our clubs are in one tiny area it will reduce the chance of getting sponsorship from national organisations. Instead you’ll end up with Streethouse Newsagents.

Though that said if three teams from a tiny area win promotion on the field then so be it.

I think our fanbase demographic (me included) may be a big factor, not just geography...

SL were against Toronto before they even started, so those items that you cherry pick to justify their exclusion (despite this being a new regime) aren’t really relevant.
