What Do French Clubs Offer SL - an objective assessment

RL fans shouldn't even be the target audience for this World Cup. They will come and lap it up regardless. Its the new or casual fan should be who the event organisers are going after who want to see and be part of a big event.

Yes and then the objective should be to serve them more exciting international RL on a regular basis, not hoping they will rock up at Salford or Hull KR. After the 2013 WC, there wasn't another home international for 2 years. Criminal!

You only have to look at much poorer spectacles to understand how crucial international sport is.

16 nations will be here in October 2021. There are plenty of teams to play. Is there a will? That's another question. Last year we lost to Tonga, NZ and PNG so the competitive element just won't wash anymore.

It is not up to me. We have a World Cup involving 400 players next year. There is either a will or there isn't to take advantage of that. I've given up hoping TBH

Don't get me wrong , I attended and enjoyed the 3/4 nation's comps a decade ago , to me they were the way forward , with a separate hemisphere comp each 2 years to decide the 4th club

On the subject of the Thread.

French RL has given us a lot and should Toulouse be selected for inclusion into SL then they'd give us considerably more. Toulouse is a city of around 480,000 population and is generally accepted a reasonably wealthy place. The Airbus HQ and main production facility is based in the city. With that population I'd imagine more young people are involved in sports and Rugby in particular. The TO club is in a stadium with top class facilities.

Being a fairly large city there will be far more direct flights there from the UK, whether that's Liverpool, Manchester or Leeds when things get back to reasonably normal. Toulouse has far more to offer SL and Rugby League than Leigh, Fev or other current aspiring UK clubs.

London has a much larger population nearly 20 times more, it's a very wealthy place, and has much more financial clout in just the "City" than Toulouse will ever ever have, the amount of younger people involved in Rugby in particular will be so much more in London than in Toulouse considering how many high profile clubs there are in London, how many airports does London have compared to Toulouse, but they are not required as we have a road infrastructure that most fans will utilise.

I will give you one thing in my comparrison, the Stadium, not many are as unfit for purpose in SL as Trailfinders is.

All I am doing Ted is comparing the fact that London has so much more to offer on the points you raise than Toulouse does, so what makes it certain that it will work in Toulouse.

If Toulouse do win the Championship would Elstone let them in? I get the feeling that he just doesn’t agree with having overseas teams in the league. If Catalans were ever relegated I doubt he would let them back either.

Of course he and his bosses would let Toulouse into SL if they won the the Championship, he/they didn't stop TWP entering SL, it was Toronto and more to the point their owner that defaulted and the prospective owner could not satisfy the process that his intentions were both valid and honourable.

I don't think Elstone agrees with any clubs being in Super League outside the M62 such is his parocialism

London Bronco's and Skolars, York, Barrow, Whitehaven, Workington, West Wales, North Wales, Coventry and does Sheffield and Doncaster come into the reckoning? As well as overseas clubs.

Better none of the above ever have any aspirations of making SL in the future.

I'm pretty sure he'd agree with that tbh, after all this is the man who took magic from Newcastle to the M62 in Liverpool...

...It was the club owners that made the decision.

Again, why do you hate Elstone so? Answer the question.

And Elstone's comments in the weeks prior, leading and the report that was compiled by SLE had no influence on that?

Warning to anyone over 6' 00 or with an inside leg over 29" don't go to Anfield the most uncomfortable seating I have ever experienced anywhere, no leg room whatsoever, it is worse than a Ryan Air aeroplane spacing.
