Sometimes these lads just don’t improve that extra percent to warrant a regular place.  These are the bargains SL can pick up, with a little vetting and effort.

What we never ever say and it does happen more often than not and that is for those who settle and make the effort they do become better players.

But then again giving SL any credit and not repeating NRL is best is a bit like a brick in the wind.

People fret about Super League producing its own players, I wouldn`t worry too much, there`s oodles of talent in the southern hemisphere that can`t crack the top grades, young, old and in between. EPL made up of 70% foreign born players, doesn`t seem to affect that competitions popularity, and its the popularity amongst the wider populace that is the important issue, broadcast deals, sponsorships and participation will follow.

That's all some of these lads need - a run of games to improve and show what they have got.

On the other hand big name NRL players like Widdop and Burgess have not handled SL at all, others were very average- Trent Merrin and some were a hopeless- Remember Greg Eastwood.... hundreds of NRL games and was terrible in SL.

Give this lad a chance and see how he goes.

Vete made 6 Storm appearances this year, so he has appeared in 25% of the games of the world's best club team.

He is also only 27 so just coming into his prime as a prop.

That doesn't sound an unreasonable standard signing for the bottom team in SL (no offence Hull KR).

Spot on, players who are just short of making first Grade in the NRL will get a contract in SL, but a key reason why we can't beat the Australians when the chips are down.

Generally speaking an nrl 'squad' player I.e someone that can't make a match day nrl 17 and only really plays when there's injuries or suspensions - are going to be decent quality SL players.

These players are dropping down a standard of rugby.

Same with SL to Championship. An below average SL player will generally be one of the better or best players in championship.

It's common sense really.

Agree. This my issue with the quota rule. We could really add to the qaulity of SL if they abolished it as there are so many fringe nrl players that could do a great job in SL and add to the product.

Thought we were trying to get young British talent through the ranks - for years we have said average Aussies have held back British talent so not sure why it's now changed.

Young 'good' British talent will always come through. Cream always rises to the top.

If a talented British player has their place taken by a bang average Aussie then I would question how 'talented' they really are.

Almost 50% of the nrl is made up of Kiwis and Pacific Islanders. I don't see the 15 Australian clubs demanding a 'quota' on foreign players to enable more Aussie talent to come through!

Get as much talent into the league as possible.

Clubs are busy looking after themselves, trying to win games and (in normal seasons) avoid relegation. They also want to pay peanuts - it is not a really great combination for excellence.

If he was playing week in week out at Melbourne he wouldn’t be moving to Hull kr would he. Super League is a step down in standard from the NRL, it makes complete sense someone struggling to get a game in the NRL would move to Super League. He has however played over 50 NRL games in the last 6 years and potentially has his best years in front of him.

I dont know anything about him whatsoever. But its amazing how often NRL forward signings go completely the opposite way that you expect. Almost every year big name NRL forwards come over, get knocked around a bit and go home with their tails between their legs. Whilst unknown and unheralded ones excel and make a career for themselves over here.

I suspect he will probably go ok.

No thanks,the one good thing to come out of this year is the number of young players who have been given their chance in first grade and haven’t looked out of place,we don’t need even more NRL rejects blocking that development.

The RFL has an agreement with clubs in all three professional leagues to publish the following information regarding which members of their squads are categorised as overseas quota players. In the case of Super League clubs, this also includes players who are not classed as Federation-trained.
