The partnership between South Gloucestershire Stroud College and Bristol All Golds took further steps today with the college's rugby academy information going live on their website. The article below gives all the information. An exciting prospect not just for the youth of Bristol and the West Country, but it's available to those from elsewhere too.

Just counting down the seconds 'til someone finds/invents a negative aspect to this latest bit of good news... 🙄

I can hear the grinding of teeth from those connected with the former Bristol Sonics.

We all know from our own experience that having school teachers who have an interest in Rugby League is gold. Whether it`s a Maths teacher or the phsycal education teacher, doesn`t matter. We had a Maths Head and a science teacher at our school who organised all the school teams. Rugby League players should be encouraged to do Teaching Degrees to increase the amount of League loving school teachers throughout the country.

It’s too far from the M62 for my linking, though that said so is Wigan.

Stott Hall is too far from the M62 for some folk...

It is a huge complex with amazing facilities.  Rugby League has had a presence their in the past but American football became the fashionable thing to be seen doing. I remember seeing lots of over weight teenagers walking round with the big shoulder pads and helmets and thinking if only RL could be promoted in such a state of the art facility.

And now it's actually happening !!!  Great stuff, well done to everyone involved.

Excuse me for quoting myself, but just wanted to add under those two teacher, bless them, our school went on a golden period of Rugby League, firstly they won two State Cups, the Commonwealth Bank Cup, for the year 7 & 8 boys, but the really biggy  was that a couple of years later it was roughly the same team that went on to win the University Shield, twice, that was the open boys, and was played against all the powerhouse Rugby League Schools around the State, like Farrar and Endeavour and they just kept on beating them all. Two of the boys from that team went on to play NSWRL, the main comp then, David Boyd , who was probably the youngest player of the team, went on to play 10 years of professional League including playing in Canterbury`s 1986 GF loss to Parramatta aged 20, and Dean Byrnes, the game breaker in the team, played for Sharks and Penrith, probably didn`t reach the heights we thought he might have.
