All the more reason to target them and get them behind a feel good story like mikolaj oledzki.

Get them behind somebody who plays for another national team? How did Brian Carney playing for GB go for spreading the game here in Ireland?

I would say that the Pakistan and Indian populations are the biggest immigrant population in the UK after probably the Irish so why not target those communities?

They are the top 3 along with Ireland and should all be targeted. If we can form a national side of UK and Australian based players we absolutely should do. This will then draw those communities into supporting and playing rugby league and can be used to help develop and grow a domestic competition within those countries.

Edit. It’s cut off at the top but those are the number of people in the uk born in those countries living in the UK in 2001 and then 2015.

Well I believe he was the 1st Irish born Super League player, there is now an Irish domestic league which there wasn’t when Carney started out so that’s great progress.

How would you go about doing it, and how much would it cost, who would pay etc?

If the players aren’t paid it’s not going to cost very much at all, it’s going to require a few volunteers perhaps. If the World Cup makes a profit small grants should go towards new National teams been formed.

Set a date for a fixture, say Poland v Bulgaria. Go about gathering a database of any players with rugby experience in either code who’d be interested in representing their national side. Mikolaj Oledski and Ethan Havard could draw some attention and interest to it, the Polish embassy congratulated Oledski on his challenge cup win, they may share something on social media. When you’ve got 17 on each side you’ve got a game.

The 1st International isn’t going to be at World Cup standard but it’d get the ball rolling and they can look to improve from there.

When he played GB were called "British Isles 13" - so he was representing the British Isles of which Ireland is part - although the national anthem was God Save The Queen which probably didnt help in Southern Ireland......

To be honest he should have been more celebrated in Ireland- he played for probably the most Famous Rugby Club in the UK in either code and smashed the hardest Rugby comp in the world in the NRL

You know yourself that team didnt represent southern Ireland. Hence why we still had our own separate national team... I think if he went on to have a good spell at Munster and avoided the disastrous 07 world cup with Ireland he may have been better celebrated here. But anyway back on topic.

It represented Ireland more than it did Scotland.....

I couldn't disagree anymore.

Well you had an Irish player in the GB team for a number of years, Scotland usually didnt.

As around the time of Carney -  GB was called the British Isles 13 it includes Ireland (as the 2nd biggest island in the British Isles) Not sure what your point is marra but let's agree to disagree.

I don't think you're quite grasping that the two terms are basically seen as the same thing over here. But yes agree to disagree. Back to polish rugby.

They had a union flag out and played god save the queen FFS.

Yep I stated that if you bothered to read the posts marra - no need to get triggered.

Dont forget the union flag and the National anthem covers Northern Ireland as well as Great Britain its self. Also Carney could have refused to play but it showed willing to call it the British Isles 13.
