Having watched the highlights its clear that the ball hits the upright, bounces into the field of play and then bounces back and goes over the crossbar before Wellsby catches it. 

Should the drop goal should have been allowed?

If it had bounced on the crossbar & then gone over without hitting the ground it would have counted

As posted on the match threads, here is the wording for a 'goal' in the laws of the game

A goal is scored if the whole of the ball at any time how scored during its flight passes on the full over the opponents’ cross bar towards the dead ball line after being kicked by a player

So, as the ball has finished its flight when it hits the ground it is no goal if it bounces over the bar after.

Haven't not read the match thread, I am honestly quite shocked to see this thread too with anyone querying it..
