I refer my honourable friend to the ‘ shoo-in v shoe - in ‘ debate on a previous thread

Not seen that thread DM. Anyway Sam is the man for me, he's matured greatly over the last few years and deserves to be captain.

I think with Wane in charge he’s got every chance . He’ll want someone he knows well and trusts

Yes, I know. That's why I said we don't have the structure to build a development squad between tournaments and I advocate picking the best available side each game.

If what you describe above (and more) was in place I would support a different approach.

but we don't have them so that's what I meant by 'in reality'.

Yes.  We have very few representative games so all we can do is pick the best 17... which itself has to be a balance.  We also struggle to field games for the Knights...who ought to be the players groomed for the future.

As such I would suggest the Captain is secondary.  The selected 17 ought to be self reliant.

Some suggestions obviously given for captain and some othe positions, but we are nearly 12 months away.  Of the key ones not really firmed down are 1, 5 (ie left wing), 7, 9.   We have many good middles.  A number of good edge forwards. The traditional loose forward often is Captain, but they seem thin on the ground.

Of equal interest might be goal kicker. Do you choose a second choice player because he is a good goal kicker?
