Mid Year International Window

Engalnd V France and Wales is a no brainer.

Unfortunately RFL lacks brains.

I'd love for a annual 2 test series with France one on Bastile Day (France) and the other on Armistice Day (Engalnd)

It depends what the thought process is.

The RFL obviously want a strong hit out. They don't feel they'll get that from a midseason test against Wales out France and for good reason (they traditionally haven't been very strong tests midseason).

Much more needs to be done to strengthen those sides before a regular international IMO. Currently, playing them would serve no purpose to anyone (England, France, international rugby league, TV viewers and paying spectators).

The point on releasing players for internationals ... we saw it a decade or so ... when we played France we selected NRL players and they came over, when we played Exiles the NRL clubs rightly said it’s not an international therefore they don’t have to release.

Wonder if the RFL choose Exiles as they don’t fancy arguing ...

A pair of annual Test matches on St George’s Day and Bastille Day would be great.

I anticipate it would instil some confidence into the French and really could be two dates owned by Rugby League. It could quickly turn into a healthy rivalry as well.

International RL is the hook for new people and casuals. We can't do that not playing internationals. The exiles isnt an international. Its an opposed training session. Nobody cares about it and it will die within a few years.

England winning internationals isnt a bad thing.

Nations league/magic weekend hybrid played mid-season every year for the top level, 9's to increase participation, world cup every four years, secondary international comp every 4 years plus 2 4 nations, and that is your cycle.

Looks like England v Exiles is pretty much locked in.

Wales v France, Scotland v Ireland would make sense too. Perhaps Greece v Italy.

Canada v Jamaica?

What about including Nigeria? They look like they'd have a useful squad. I would personally like to see Lebanon, Jamaica, Nigeria, USA and Canada involved in a NH competition.

I'd still keep Americas, European and African championships but this could be played in some kind of format in one of the years during a WC cycle
