Catalans prospects in 2021

Recommended Posts

Catalan's eternal problem is discipline and in particular discipline in big games.  This is not just foul play but also the discipline to not lose focus and get distracted when decisions start to go against them.

They were a team that suffered from discipline problems in 2019 and then recruited James Maloney and Joel Tomkins and amazingly enough their discipline problems didn't disappear.

Until they solve this part of their game they will always be in the 'competitive but not good enough' category.

"The history of the world is the history of the triumph of the heartless over the mindless." — Sir Humphrey Appleby.

"If someone doesn't value evidence, what evidence are you going to provide to prove that they should value it? If someone doesn't value logic, what logical argument could you provide to show the importance of logic?" — Sam Harris

This is it in a nutshell. For years it has been apparent what Catalans problems are and what needs to be done to improve them.  However you then see the signings they proceed to make and it makes you wonder if the people running them are watching a completely different team.

Unless there’s some French involvement  in decent numbers in the dragons starting 17 for 2021 I’ll be rooting for their opponents.

Says a supposed Cumbrian who supports a football club on the other side of the country and doesnt support any if the 3 Cumbrian clubs or even Cumbrian amateur games.....

You ok marra??

just asking lad as you sound very triggered?

Not really kid but you seem keen to cast aside Cats if they dont pass your French player Quota but by your own admission you dont support any Cumbrian RL, especially the very strong amateur game. Just trying to make sure your rules are the same for all situations marra.

Was going to say the same, unless Catalan's can sort out their discipline problems then they won't win SL.

They've always been the same in this respect, 2019 wasn't the start of these issues for them.

Absolutely. It’s about time they started to give the French players a shot at 1st team action instead of  always resorting to over paid overseas duds.

Every club has overseas players, Catalans follow the same rules as every other club, it’s ridiculous to hold them to a different standard.

I don’t mind them having a few quality overseas players but for them to sign average overseas players at the expense of French players is a joke.

Again all clubs have overseas players and all clubs are restricted to the same number of overseas players. Catalans are no different to any other Super League club.

Catalans can have the pick of any French prospect, it is a very unique situation in our sport and something the expansion of the game in France is desperate for

Honest question, are English lads classed as overseas player's in France and Visa Versa?

I've heard it said that NZ Warriors will never take out the NRL title without some Australians in the side. I think they may have had a few when they reached the Final back in 2002. Probably the best French player presently is Theo Fages. The defence coach Eamon O'Carroll has moved on. I've haven't heard who will replace him for 2021.Is Shaun Edwards still living in the Perpignan area?

Catalans can have the pick of any French player, other than those French players that choose to play for another Super League club, or Championship club, or Elite 1 club, or union club. Absolute rubbish, Catalans don’t have sole access to French players.

The dragons have potentially the best pick of the crop of French RL talent because they are in super league.

Which was proved in last season's Semi Final against St Helens.

Wakefield is closer to the French RL heartland than Perpignan is it 😆

That’s not what I said. Theo Fages, Morgan Escare, Romaine Navarrete, Tong Gigot all play in Super League for clubs other than Catalans. To say Catalans have the pick of any French player is simply not true. Any Super League club can offer a French player a contract.
