Good to see 4 domestic based players in there. I expect Jamaica will be too good for that squad though.

Scotland RL appoint Scott Simon as head of chair, replacing Keith Hogg

Scott has a PhD in Elite coaching, is an accredited strength and conditioning coach, was voted Elite Sport Coach of the Year 2021, and is as happy at the coaching coal-face as he is in the Board room.

Scott is an ex rugby league player, representing the RAF, Combined Service, Wales A and Students as well as Great Britain Students. He played professionally for The London Broncos in Super League 7 before having to prematurely retire through injury.

Do you know how many teams will be in the Scottish league this year (think it was 5 last year?), when it’s starting etc?

No news yet Edinburgh certainly but they did mention last year going back to the NE league

Glasgow doing a lot of fundraising at moment organised a fundraising night on the 12th Feb (see their FB page) they have a signed Huddersfield top family tickets for Saints v Hull K R game

Forth Valley actively promoting there sponsors

Aberdeen have said they aim to join this year

Strathmore active on FB and will probably be their, hopefully completing a full season

Fife no idea

Scotland RL certainly doing/organising development days with one this Sunday at Dalkeith

Edinburgh entertaining NERL this year as planned, and with such a strong and established team this is probably better for them, just wondering if they have enough players to have entered a 2nd string in the domestic league???? but no Strathmore guessing there concentrating on RU for this year

Sad news but Fife Lions have announced that they are unable to compete this season and hope to be back next year

What's the background to this and the Strathmore decision?

There was talk of Edinburgh entering a second team in the Scottish League but I think it was just too much of a stretch, but I think that's potentially one for the future. Strathmore seem to be focusing their efforts on RU, but I believe some of their players are going to play for Aberdeen. Fife not being able to enter a team is a shame. Not sure exactly what the reasons are but I know they moved a season or two ago and they have been struggling for numbers since then. It's disappointing because a 6 team league (plus Edinburgh 1st playing in NERL) would have been a good foundation for the game in Scotland.

It is a shame, I’m not 100% sure why so won’t speculate

On a positive note Aberdeen are back Glasgow seem to be getting good numbers turning up and a few younger lads, Forth valley going from strength to strength, only 3 teams is disappointing but we still have 3 teams. Hopefully RL Scotland are working behind the scenes though their lack of communication/updates is always frustrating

Edinburgh though continue to grow on and off the field and representing Scottish RL well in NERL

Edinburgh looking to aim big with plans on developing there player pathways through u16 and academy players, be financially viable

train and retain there own coaches, hopefully re model the club and become 100% fan based owned and aim to be Scotland’s 1st professional club,

Im sure more details of the strategy will be published soon
