London Broncos Coach Tom Tsang could be forgiven for being frustrated with the developments of 2020 which saw his Reserve side have their season cut short before it really began and finding out that there will be no Reserve competition in 2021. However speaking to londonbroncosrl.com Tsang was upbeat and full of enthusiasm after a lengthy lay off and a change of role at the club.

The former Coventry Head Coach is now operating in a dual role as a member of the First Team Coaching staff and the Head Coach of the Broncos Academy side and he explained this gave him a great opportunity to work with players throughout their transition from Academy to First Team.

He said “The Broncos Academy has done so much good work over the years and the Reserves was set to be a stepping stone to the First Team so there are a lot of guys that were disappointed and missing a lot of games that would have given them valuable experience.”

“As far as their development that 12 months was going to be vital but we are all just grateful to be in fortunate positions and realise there are people worse off all around the Country.”

In his role Tsang will be in the perfect position not only to assist Danny Ward and Jamie Langley with the knowledge he holds of the Academy players but more importantly help the players to bridge the gap between first team and Academy when the time comes for them to step up.

Tsang said “Working with both squads serves as a really useful objective as I can see first hand how the Under 19s are progressing but also help them prepare for the step up if and when that arrives. This includes making sure they understand the values, standards and behaviours we expect from our First Team squad are filtered down to the Under 19s to ensure there is no shock to the system once they make the First Team training set up.”

The First Team Squad are ending week 3 of Pre-Season today and Tsang updated us on the progress made by the staff and players with another change to regulations as stage 2 training started.

Tsang added “The other staff have mentioned before the first 2 weeks meant we could do a lot of one to one stuff in very small groups and this was really useful. Now we have gone into full squad training it is actually noticeable that the players have had the benefit of this in the last two weeks and they look really sharp for the stage we are at.”

“Personally I have been really impressed with the younger blokes who are showing up really well and I am sure that Wardy will be happy with the depth these lads are giving him in his squad.”

Tom was able to also confirm that having arrived at training yesterday straight from his long haul flight to the UK new signing Abbas Miski training properly for the first time today (Friday).

Tom Tsang is available for sponsorship in 2021 and the coaching packages are fantastic for sponsors wanting to get a chance to see behind the scenes of the club. Please contact james.milner@londonbroncosrl.com for details.
