Has it waned?

I seem to remember Wales u16 beating England u16 a few years ago. Strange that considering there’s no interest in the game down there

Thats why I said imagine.

There are also two lower league clubs in Wales. Keeping that going at a much more difficult lower level suggests the appetite is there.

Ok you win. The game is buoyant in Wales. Always has been and always will be

sometimes you have to take a step backwards to move forward

No need to be petulant, if you going to spread such assertions, at least try and support your argument. Just because the 2 semi pro clubs are at a low ebb doesn’t mean there isn’t any interest in the game there. How do you think they’ve just got a statue sanctioned for 3 Welsh RL greats in Cardiff Bay if there’s no interest? Or Welsh schools continually performing well in the Champion Schools competition?

It wasn’t long ago that York City Knights nearly went out of existence and there was little to no grassroots/junior development going on in York. Would you similarly say there’s no interest in RL in York?

Every club has good and bad times. I’m wise enough to know my club currently On a crest of a wave will fall off it sooner or later.

No-one is saying that, but it is being played and it is growing (and producing pro players) so that's worth acknowledging and celebrating.

You've just jumped from one extreme to the other like a spoilt child.

As long as the game keeps growing in areas like Wales, Bath, Coventry, Cornwall, Newcastle, London our future is assured.

Can't you find a reason to be cheerful about this?

When he says ''each new club has to run, as a minimum........'' he sounds very authoritarian. The wording is unequivocally proscriptive and that really rankles with me.

Probably best to interpret this as aspirational.

If this is what he's suggesting, I have news for Mr Kear, new clubs don't burst into existence, fully fledged, all guns blazing, with teams covering every age group, the gender spectrum, or the entire range of physical disabilities.

As you say if it`s peremptory, it`s unhelpful. A one size fits all club model also precludes the possibility of clubs specialising and mutually complementing each other.

Because winning games and getting people through turnstiles have traditionally been the only measures of success, our pro game has been bedevilled by a beggar-thy-neighbour attitude. Thankfully the community game is different.

I think for a while Leigh Miners acted as a female RL hub for a wider area than their immediate vicinity. Then as the numbers grew, more clubs formed women and girls sections.
