Leigh sign Nathan Peats - are Aussies now more willing to travel?

In fairness that's the level of player Leigh are likely to get.

Numerous fans have boldly repeated Beaumont's mantra that no players have contracts beyond 2021, the club itself is clearly not sure of its Super League spot following this season, and cap space must be tight even though they have been given less funding to do it because they have recruited for championship promotion. That is going to have an impact on how attractive (or in this case not) a club is to potential players, and that's before you get onto how the Super League clubs can't offer the standard "come to England, travel Europe" pitch they often have in the past.

...

"Come to England, get a Covid vaccine."

Aussie journos are asking why he wasnt signed to NRL, I see.

The other factor which could come into play is his demands, maybe they have reduced or maybe the club has more money to spend or maybe the pickings are now so slim its better to have quality than not

Leigh got him on the cheap. Even on the cheap no other Super League clubs were interested. He waited to as long as possible for other offers to come along and they didn't, hence why he signed for Leigh. It was the only offer on the table possibly apart from offers to play in the NSW or QLD cup competitions

So you have seen his contract then, prey tell how much is he on then.

Let’s be honest, pretty much any Aussie signing into SL, regardless of which team, is here for one of the following reasons

1. Unwanted by the NRL because there’s many more just like them

2. Injury prone so unattractive to NRL clubs

3. Bad boys dismissed by their clubs or trying to get away from some impending legal problem.

4. Guys trying to maximize their career, their bodies are wearing out and they are looking to reduce the wear and tear to get a couple more years before retiring.

5. A SL club was stupid enough to overpay for their services.

Of the above, you are usually better off getting category 1, quite a few journeyman Aussies have turned out to be good value SL players, maybe this guy is one of them.

You miss out 1 group which is probably the most important group and the one SL clubs are after most.

6. The players with potential who don’t quite cut it in the NRL for whatever reason. Who then go on to develop into very good players in SL.

Mate he signed for Leigh as that was the only contract offer he received from a Super League club. Nobody else wanted him. He waited until as late as possible to sign for them hoping a bigger and more ambitious club would come in for him and nobody did.

So you don't know how much is contract is then , and which clubs would you describe as ambitious  wakey huddersfield  cas because if leigh had no ambition they wouldn't have applied for SL on a reduced  payout.

None of that you have any certifiable evidence to back up. Maybe it is true, who knows? Certainly not you, or anyone else on this forum for that matter.

You are obviously struggling to see why he waited just a week before before the Super League season started before he signed for Leigh, It's simple, he was waiting for a better offer from a club that won't be in a relegation fight, sadly for him no other Super League were prepared to pay him what he thought he was worth

Exactly and that's why they would have got Peats on the cheap.

That's why Peats waited until as late as possible to sign for them hoping a better offer would come along. Peats has been available since last October and nobody in the NRL or Super League apart from Leigh wanted him.

Imports come to Superleague for 2 main reasons either they are ageing & struggling to meets the demands of the NRL or no NRL clubs will give them a decent contract,Peats is far from the worst ex NRL addition to the comp.

I don't know what went on behind the scenes, because i'm not Nathan Peats or his agent. Unless you are, it's all just your opinion, no matter how many times you say it.

In a sport where salary caps and quotas exist, it's impossible to determine if a player isn't 'wanted' because it just isn't that simple.

To be honest I sort of lumped those guys in category 1, good players which the NRL has many of, in fact more than there are 1st grade spots, they come here where they find our game is more conducive to their skill set and carve out a good career here. Steele Retchless anyone?

Why do you think when he was available from last October nobody from the NRL or Super League wanted him?

He can't be on much otherwise Leigh wouldn't have signed him

So , given as you are such a massive expert on the various rosters of the NRL clubs , who should Leigh have signed ?

Geez you are hard work. Now go and lie on your bed for 30 minutes and think to yourself why didn't any NRL or Super League club want him? and why did he only sign for Leigh a week ago? and when the penny drops you will think yep TFIL is right.

So basically you haven't a clue , but feel the need to have petty digs at Leigh

Pathetic
