A think there needs to be some sole searching, when we thrashed them in pre season complacency seems to have crept in. After those 2 quick tries we have have turned the screw, but no we let them back in and boy did they take it.Parata for me made the difference when we went behind. I hope this wakes them up

Reality check for the team and some fans who believe the hype that Fev are one of the top 2 or 3 in our division. Unless the players produce on the pitch then it won't matter how good you think they are. A win is a win but a big improvement needed for next week.

with all due respect FEV are one of the top teams in the league you could see that with the quality of the tries we scored when we decided to play rugby but agree we need to show it more consistently

The second statement is absolutely correct, but if you think that believing Fev are one of the top 3 in the division is "hype" what odds would you give for Fev to finish in the top 3? It's almost unheard of for a team to turn the ball over in its own half as many times as we did today and still win.

Absolutely terrible performance

Think the hype had gone to their heads - as well as some of the supporters - predicting 20+ pts win every week, asking about wembley etc etc

Im glad Batley turned up and gave it a go & nearly won - the reality check was needed both on the field and on the forums

Brown finally turned up & parata yet again showing us he is currently undroppable

Extremely poor and lucky to get the result - surely a reaction on friday and a lot of training on how to catch a ball

Changes must take place for me Hardy out for Minns & Halton out for Davies

Halton got caught far too many times on the wrong side of the play the ball.

Needed a Davis today to take the ball away from the sticks.

Just did enough there to get out of jail but let this be a lesson learnt as we won’t get away with this kind of performance every week.Good effort Batley you showed great enthusiasm work rate and if you’d have turned us over I for one wouldn’t have complained

On to next Friday evening.....

Forza Fev

We rode our luck today , some need to have a look at their individual performance as some came up well short . But taking a positive from this can be ever play that bad again and win , hopefully not . Lessons to be learnt and move on , as we can only get better . But well played batley they played what was in front of them and took their chances well .

Well done on your win. Got to admit though it wasn't the Fev we know. Your boys had a bit of a horror show out there today. Batley, credit to them they really had a go at it. Hope you guys get into superleague (been saying it for quite a while now). Good luck for the season ahead.

Thaught brown was excellent and will improve as season goes on. Gale was also solid on the wing. Our own errors killed us and thought Blackmore had a shocker on the wing making a few mistakes that lead to try’s need to kick onto next week and put a big score on then on the league

The stats don't lie. There was one reason we struggled today.

It wasn't because we were lacked penetration in attack or conviction in defence. It was because of individual handling errors.

We had 14 sets in the first half and failed to complete seven of them (five knock ons/lost the ball, two forward passes).

Then we came out in the second half and failed to complete five of our first seven sets (three knock ons, two forward passes, all in our own 40m).

In addition, we knocked on or touched the ball six times when they had possession, five leading to a fresh set of six and one to a try.

We made 16 individual errors in the first hour, that's why the lead was whittled away. That's absolutely shocking at this level and it's amazing we won the game really. We didn't make any errors in our last eight sets, completing all of them, and the game swung back to us.

The forward passes in particular need nipping in the bud, we were pulled up four times from the acting half back's pass.

BTW you obviously have to give credit to Batley for creating the pressure that led to some of these errors, but so many of them were just unforced.

Be away with your stats and analysis. It was all because of "hype".

Are you sure? I thought it was because the players thought they were better than they were. 😉

You'll get better with more game time and Batley have a habit of putting together a team every 5 years or so, remember where Harrison, Day and Davis came from. I still can't see many teams troubling you and when you were good you were excellent and Brown, Parata and  Chisholm will see you into SL

Given that Batley were the better side for stretches of this game, it will be interesting next Friday.

Arguably, Lingard did a better job than Webster in preparation for today.

TBH we've done a lot of the same for large stretches in the previous 3 games.

As I said Mark, you can believe the hype (which comes from fans and not necessarily the team) but if the players don't produce on the pitch then the team won't be where fans expect them to be. The stats don't lie but if the team is as good as some fans think they are then those errors wouldn't happen in such big numbers. It's early in the season and there will be an improvement but it is a shot across the bows

eh?

You lot will be fine. It seems for lots of your supporters it is either one extreme or the other. Remember we are still in effect in pre-season mode. As Piggy says above, you'll be fine, well better than fine, as the season goes on.

I think you're correct.

Webster didn't pull any punches in his after match comments. Fev were dire in that second half. It's been acknowledged and we move on.

I don't think this team will play as bad again all season
