Chris Chester horrible win record

Recommended Posts

Okay, he's had 2 bad seasons, but mitigation was there.

His overall record at Wakefield is still

Played    Won   Lost   Draw    Win %
172 73 97 2 42.4%

Finishing positions in SL 2016 -2020:

8th, 5th, 5th, 9th & 10th

Still currently the highest average finishing position over any 5-year period in Wakefield's 22-year SL tenure.

This is a club with the smallest salary cap spend in SL who also get reduced central funding because of their facilities - so still punching above their weight.

New facilities and income streams from the end of this year could see the turnaround needed, if not they will be replaced fairly soon by another club (Newcastle/York/Toulouse?)

He is under pressure to produce results, but this season is only 2 games old, and in both those they played some decent stuff.

There are issues with the squad, but come back at the half-way point and we'll make a judgement.

Well.... we can judge what we see when we see it. Our judgement will improve the more information we see....

Yes, if you want a decent coach you will have to invest and stop paying £40k for a mate of the chairman. If that means flogging Tom Johnstone or getting rid of a David Fifita then you do it and rebuild. Clubs that are successful are driven from the front. Cas were in the #### and waived the ££s at Powell - even though they didn't have the money for the team at the time and were rock bottom.

Some of that is correct. Chester has become a close friend of the chairman and allows him to play out his role of a real life fantasy league manager. He knows it keeps him close and in a job. Not many,if any ,top coaches would allow him yo do that.

Where you are miles out, is Chester's salary. Double what you quoted and add a bit more ,and you are just about there.

Then that makes it even worse. A bit more than that and you could get a Shane Flanagan or someone similar.

Yes on top of the three year contract he was initially given and subsequently extended. Not the smartest bit of business by the club.

Maybe Andrew Fifta will help matters.

Chester has relied on two basic tactics. Give the ball to Dave, or give the ball to Tom.

My only concern that a third option of hive the ball to Andrew could complicate his thinking

If Wakefield got this Super Coach, achieved a top 4 finish and completed the transformation of Belle Vue  half the folks on here wanting it to happen would in reality be gutted.

This world was never meant for one as beautiful as me.

That's a full bag o' chips you've got on your shoulder there fella.

The fact remains, wakey are nowhere near that scenario and are unlikely to be anytime soon. They are what they are. A club that barely gets by and tows from one season to the next safe in the Knowledge that as yet there aren't enough clubs strong enough to displace wakey at the mo.

As long as they can continue to finish 11th, they'll be reight.

For 3 years? come on, every club has had an injury crisis and suspensions, he hasn't had it any worse than any other club.

Has Chris Chester not finished higher than Hull KR at the end of the season(s)?

KR have had world acclaimed,Australia and England coaches in Sheens and Smith.

I can't think of any coach who wins every game.

I suppose it matters to the supporters of Wakefield Trinity and the board of directors at that club.

I ain't one of 'em.The results do ,perhaps, indicate that the I juries and suspensions have impacted.

I'll watch out for the results when the 2021 campaign begins in earnest.

No reserves, but resilience, persistence and determination are omnipotent.

Ah, that's why we need a change in coach, we've not finished 11th since CC took over 🙂
