Predictions for the future -

Crusaders RL to get a franchise for 2012 onwards -WRONG

Widnes Vikings also to get a franchise - RIGHT

Crusaders RL to do the double over Widnes and finish five places ahead of them -WRONG

Widnes Vikings NOT to dominate rugby league in years to come! STILL TO COME

No their absence is barely worth a comment. In the NRL they are marginally less annoying than the captain's Challenge, but that's not saying much.

I don’t mind the reduction in scrums for certain offences but I absolutely miss scrums for the wonderful attacking plays. Players are so fit now it can be difficult to find open space, if it’s not for an offload or a lazy tackle. A scrum congests players and allows open space out wide. There have been some brilliant tries in NRL from scrums. I fail to see how anyone cannot appreciate them or want them in our game

Scrums are not an issue ,infact they can create exciting opportunities especially if the odd one is won against the feed.

The real issues is the coaches who lack the imagination and skill to take advantage and create special plays. Bring em back ASAP.

Exactly. Spot on mate. Why can't they do it anymore?

The ptb is an atrocity now.

Everything i fell in love with about League has been removed or changed.

I can barely watch it now. I hardly watch a full game and just watch the short highlights on youtube.

Rugby Union the only game in the world were the spectators handle the ball more than the players.

I agree the play the ball is terrible. Your third paragraph is a shame mate. It's the little things that are the most annoying.

Indeed.  I read recently that scrums will be back for the RLWC21 and we will be at a disadvantage not having used them for so long which imo is a valid concern.

In Australian games I still haven`t got used to there being no scrum after the ball has gone into touch. You`re expecting something different to start the set, and the heart sinks as you realise the ref is organising a slow-motion handover - "where do you want it? markers lock in, wait, hold, wait, go 1" . Followed by a perfunctory first tackle settler.

Completely sums up why scrums will return, taking them away has accelerated the sterile growth that's crept into the game as every coach has graduated through the same coaching system.

Carlsberg don't do Soldiers, but if they did, they would probably be Brits.

Because the referees let them get away with it.

I`ve mentioned the RFL`s video posted on their YouTube channel regarding this year`s rule changes several times on several threads.

On the change from penalty to handover for an incorrect PTB, Liam Moore explains that the tackled player is only required to have "Balance and Control". There is no mention of any need to even attempt to play the ball with the foot.

The refs are not letting them "get away with it". They are merely applying the current rule as instructed.

The RFL just can`t summon the honesty to explicitly say what the rule now is, and amend their rulebook accordingly. And they are not held to account for the disjunction between de jure and de facto because on technical matters the RL media are every bit as feckless as they are.
