Kris Ratcliffe felt that his Wigan Warriors Women side have a lot more to offer after beating Bradford Bulls Women 38-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The Cherry and Whites ran in eight unanswered tries from seven different scorers, as they made it two wins from two in the Betfred Women’s Super League on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking to Wigan TV following the victory, Ratcliffe said: “A wins a win. It’s a bit of a cliché but we’re a bit disappointed really in how we played today, we played far too rushed and frantic and really copied a lot of what we saw for Bradford in terms of how we were playing, it wasn’t a great spectacle at all. That being said we’ve put some points on the board and we nilled them, I’d have been disappointed if we conceded but that nil is a big plus point.”

The Bulls put up a big defensive effort in the second period to keep Wigan to just two scores after a promising first half.

Ratcliffe said: “It comes from the first half, we didn’t start great and then fought to get back in; we just never got that calmness to how we were playing. I asked us to reset and start the game again in the second half but that’s easier said than done once you’ve set the platform it’s very difficult to undo and we probably went worse in that second half.

“We still managed to win the second half though so we’ve got to not dwell on it now, we’ve got a cup game next week so we need to put today’s game to bed and just know that we’re better than that. 38-0 is okay but we know we’re a lot better, there’s some good signs.”

Anna Mary Davies ran in two tries on Sunday.

He added: “Last time we played Bradford we got a draw and before that it was a scrappy win at their place, they’re challenging for the top four, so we’ve shown that we can take that challenge, it’s now about making that step and competing with the top three.”

Seven Wigan players were on the scoresheet on the day, with first tries for the Club for Amy Boardman, Emily Stirzaker and a double from Anna Mary Davies.

Speaking on his teams attacking capabilities, Ratcliffe said: “We know that we can score points, we’ve got some great strike players and that was the difficulty really, we didn’t set up that strike too well. We were quite flat and a bit rushed and I think with a little bit more composure we’d have put more points on the board and made things a lot easier for ourselves, but you’ve got to win ugly sometimes.”
