Looking up the page, the posts have been mostly exchanges about NRL blowouts. i.e. related to the thread title.

Do moderators actually want people to post, or would it be better to leave everything blank?

Yes post away

Just a little less of the personal digs would be appreciated. I recognise the blowout references throughout.

I just wish I could think of a quote of his that I could relate to Rugby League. Closest I can come up with is " the unspeakable chasing the inedible " Wilde used it to describe foxhunting, we could probably turn it to Fergo`s pursuit of Addo-Carr in last years finals.

The thing about Wilde it was his affair with the Marquis of Queensbury`s son that led to his disgrace and downfall.

This is the Marquis of Queensbury who laid out the laws of boxing, I imagine he was a mucho sort of guy who didn`t appreciate his son being seduced by an old dandy like Wilde.

There`s a quote about boxing that although isn`t Wilde could well have been written by him,

" two men in silk underpants, wearing gloves and fighting over a purse", don`t think the Marquis would have liked that either.

Okey-dokey.

The line between acceptable banter and personal digs isn`t always clear as you type. Sometimes the differing perceptions are only revealed by the reactions.

Having said that, this forum would be a lesser place if we were all too afraid of anyone taking umbrage.

Forgive the pedantry. - The exact quote is "the unspeakable in full pursuit of the uneatable".

I refrained from throwing that one at SP earlier, partly because it`s rather overused, and also because the fumbling shenanigans I wanted to link it with, hardly meet the description of "full pursuit".

The closest total winning margin since Rd 8. There does seem to have been a post SoO tightening.

I fear though the biggest test V’landys and the NRL face at the moment is getting Christmas cards from their UK league cousins.

@ckn this thread may sit better in the Australian page now…

Rd 20 was the equally least competitive NRL week when considering fixtures won by 12 or less and then 18 or less.

NRL spectators were spared the opportunity of an exciting encounter between first and second placed teams this weekend, seeing the winners victorious by an uneventful 27 point margin.

After a brief hiatus, the NRL leads into the last 5 rounds coming off one of its least competitive rounds of the season.

Any respect i had for V'landys has gone due to his handling of the world cup and how he didn't stand up to the NRL clubs. 99% of people in his position would have walked away if they had any pride. He isn't dependent on the money he gets from the ARLC as he has a well paid job with the NSW Horse racing board

Yeah absolutely him and all the clubs to be fair, thinking that preseason games are more important than a World Cup.

I hope that sooner rather than later the Aussie fans find out that they’ve been lied to, strung along and treat as mugs by him and Gould and all that mob.

Loving it.....Those with the best attack win.

The Titans are now a genuine finals chance, and have played some sensational attacking football this year. But some of their games have involved extreme momentum swings even by 2021 standards. Justin Holbrook will have to find ways to limit the damage in periods when the tide turns against them.

There`s a striking comparison with the Eels that shows both teams have scored 496 points, but Parra have conceded 335, the Titans have conceded 498.

We`ll find out whether the Titans have it in them soon enough. Their next two games are with the Rabbitohs and the Storm.

Arguably the most competitive round of the season couldn’t have come soon enough leading into the final few weeks. Very refreshing to see six fixtures won by margins of 12 or less. The total winning margin was only marginally outside the lowest on record from Rd 2.

A very enjoyable round, apart from the Sharks implosion against the Warriors.

Notably, IIRC at the start of the round, all the top 8 teams played each other and all the bottom 8 teams played each other, so I think there may have been a small case of the stars aligning to get a overall competitive week.

We can only hope that extends into this weekend’s fixtures.

Move on please...

Points relating directly to Blowout scores - great

Personal rivalry/points scoring element  - no thanks.

Couple of tight Fumble contests on Saturday -

Port Adelaide 140 Carlton 45

Brisbane 142 Collingwood 57

Relates to blowout scores, and there doesn`t appear to have been much personal rivalry between either the Power and the Blues or the Lions and the Magpies. So posting meets the stipulated criteria.

That would be a great talking point on a “Fumbleball Blowout Scores” thread.

  • Sports Prophet changed the title to V’landys Faces NRLs Biggest Test: Blowout Scores

I stand by my position that a crucial element to the watchability of a match is the tightness of the score.

I stand by my position that all the elements thereof are more complicated for an intelligent RL fan.

I used to be a big Soccer fan, not so much nowadays. Given a choice of watching a 7-0 or 0-0 Soccer game, I would opt for the former.

I am not and never have been an AFL fan. Given a choice (along with substantial compensation) of watching a 136-49 or 64-66 AFL game, I would take the latter.

Incidentally, last night`s Bulldogs 64 (10 goals, 4 misses) Power 66 (9 goals, 12 misses), was one of those enhanced-absurdity AFL games where the winning team kicked fewer goals than their opponents.

Three games to start this weekend have all been victories of 18 points or less and two stunning games on Friday.

I wish you would learn to say "fewer" rather than "less".
