Joel Tomkins at the RFL Disciplinary

Recommended Posts

He probably got more because of his poor disciplinary record and because the initial incident was absolutely nothing to do with him. Had Sam Tomkins been the one punching Hardaker back then he would likely have only got 1 or 2 games but because it was his brother just running in and throwing punches he justly deserves the 4 games he got.

thats exactly it for me.. retaliation is one thing but running in has always been punished harder..

This often gets quoted, but I have rarely seen it tbh.

Sorry @Saint Toppy

Which bit of my post is inaccurate?

😆 It barely brushed him, players receive knocks harder than that a hundred times in every match. The thug reacted like he'd be smashed round the head with a baseball bat.

Once a brain dead thug, always a brain dead thug. Stop trying to make excuses for him, he got what he deserved.

He did indeed.  The power in the headbutt was feeble.

Normally though, we see players dropping to the floor, rubbing their neck whilst looking at the Ref like a loving Labrador, from feeble knocks.

So you were wrong then. Glad we covered that

I’d have done a better job on hardaker than Tomkins, a teal hardman like say Jim Mills would have been given a well done.

It’s amazing how Jim Mills is described as a hard man and not a thug considering he was allegedly sent off 19 times and one of those was for stamping on the head of an opponent just after he had scored.

Eye, different times. Think Mills, see also Boyd, Sorenson and a fair few others, pushed the line between Hard but fair and did cross it sometimes into out right thuggery.

He may have been a thug now n again ... he was most definitely a hard man ! He’s also a brilliant bloke

In fairness, he can't be rewarded with a lower sentence for not being accurate with his punches. The panel judge on intent.

Also the panel don't take into account who he was punching.

I don’t think John Greengrass thought he was “a brilliant bloke” when he was having 15 stitches in a head wound courtesy of the Mills studs.

Yes you are, as well as being wrong

Your seriously trying to defend Tomkins actions - unbelievable.

The guy got his face brushed by the back of his brothers head and reacted by launching a sustained attack of punches at Hardaker's head. He's an idiot, and lucky to only get 4 matches

I'm not defending him, I'm just pointing out, you saying he ran in from distance, to get involved in something he wasn't part of.

That is wrong, based on reality, he was stood behind sam, he copped Sam's head in the face off the recoil.

Regardless of knocks players get during the game, he wasn't carrying the ball, he wasn't tackling, there's no reason for him to get hit in the face in that situation.

He is a grub and deserves his ban for an overreaction.

But You would be a ###### police witness. I hope you never have to give evidence

Quite ridiculous that Zac gets less than Tomkins IMO

I agree with this.

If someone headbutted my brother right in front of me, I'd have smacked him for it.

No matter what the disciplinary guidelines say and I wouldn't have apologised for it either.

If he was punished for who he was punching it is likely that he would have got NFA and Hardaker would have got 10 matches extra for not receiving enough punches

They met up years later and had a beer and a chat about the old days.

Two hard men in their day, the game’s very different now

Yet some on this forum describe Hardaker, Joel Tomkins and others as thugs but they are not in the same league as Mills. There have been many instances of players who have history meeting up and having a beer but it doesn’t take away what occurred. “The game’s very different now” doesn’t make what happened ‘then” acceptable.
