I saw in the Danish newspaper a preview of the tournament and England were one of the big three favourites they listed. They would seem like hubris to British ears if it came from an English person, but it is reasonable. The Danish side of 1986 were great, but in the end disappointing. Equally, the 2006 England side had great players, but were disappointing. Even your post indicates the chance of actually beating a genuinely decent side seems far fetched. This makes sense based on England experience, but shows the modesty of ambition. I often read foreign newspapers on translate, and they pretty much all have us as one of the 4 or so potential winners. In 2018 I was saying we were overdue a decent run. People forget that 1990 came after our worst ever tournament performance. We're way overdue beating a big country in a knockout game. In reality 1966 was the last time. The only other candidates are 1990 Belgium and 1996 Spain who IMO can't be classed as big teams. I think I'd take knocking out a Germany, Italy, France or Portugal as a success. However finishing second gives a potentially winnable couple of knockout games so still all to play for.

Maximus Decimus
I've been critical of the Euros going to 24 teams, but it's got nothing on the Copa America - a 10 team tournament in two groups of 5 where 4 go through! 1 A Widnesian in Ireland blog What is the best system for Super League? To be honest, I really don't know. I have neither high, low or medium expectations at the moment. There’s some really good footballers in this current crop; players who like being on the ball. Grealish, Bellingham, Mount etc… it’s not often we’ve been able to say that. The likes of Gerrard, Lampard et al were great footballers but high energy and not great at retaining possession. Hopefully this current crop can bring that to the national team as it’s needed at this level.
Futtocks
What is going on right now with Christian Eriksen is very scary. Surely they can't play on? gingerjon
Seems that it was whoever broadcasts on behalf of UEFA who chose the feed we all saw. The BBC was far from alone in not cutting to a studio or just away from football entirely. A pox on all of them. Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. As has been pointed out, they manage to cut away from streakers without so much of a glimpse of a flying cock but for this we need close ups of emergency CPR? Niels
I just read about it on the BBC site now. Like everyone I am shocked and glad he has stabilised. He is such a classy and graceful player. Also the medical staff appear to have reacted excellently. Edited June 12, 2021 by Niels
DavidM
Rapid fire treatment , absolutely vital . I’m so pleased it’s good news . One positive is they’ll now check him and test him thoroughly to see what the underlying problem is . That was a warning , some people in that situation never get the second chance .All the best to him
