Any team playing in the City of Manchester should be called Manchester. We should have a team in RL playing out of the MRA  arena and grow the sport to new commercial partners.

Manchester vs Leeds,  Manchester vs Warrington and yes Manchester vs Salford.

But that cant happen if Salford get dumped there.

I saw 'on another blog' that the chairman of Salford Reds Supporters Club was basically  suggesting that the best thing was to leave the AJ Bell.     It was not financially viable for Salford for one thing, and it's likely to be sold to Sale anyway.

On they should leave and find a better homw if possible. They are going to be forced to leave soon anyway. It was always a crappy location with no public transport links in a time where working class people and people living in urban environments are far less likely to own a car.

6-6,500 max is what they need.

Not sure where you think the few fans we have live or that they are all working class.

The simple fact is people will moan where ever the team play. People find their way to the Trafford Centre, there was pre covid a bus from there on match days.

The current stadium is expensive, Salford receive no revenue and that is the main issue.

You clearly have no idea about Salford Red Devil’s, the stadium, it’s location and the areas where the fans reside, there are a couple of regular bus services that service the stadium, plus another run by the Supporters Trust, the location is not anywhere as bad as many, some who have never been to the stadium, suggest it is.

The stadium has more car parking than most if not all Super League clubs  and the facilities are first class and the stadium company have took on board the initial problems that came up at the beginning and rectified them.

No clearly no idea. No idea about their poor attendances or oversized stadium. No idea that it is 40 minuted by bus from Salford proper by bus or a 30 minute walk from the Trafford Centre. No idea that it is absolutely unserviced by railway or metro.

No idea either about the wildly over optimistic predictions for attendances. Thanks for enlightening me, going to put you on mute now.

I realise you won't read this, You still miss the point that many fans don't live in what you class as "proper Salford" Neither I or WSRD

The reality is even in their heyday Salford have never drawn huge crowds, football is king in the Manchester and Salford City area.

Maybe move Oldham their, rename them as Old Man FC

I was thinking that Oldham and Rochdale could merge and be called Oldham Rochdale United Football rugbY East Division. Or Oldham Rufyeds for short. We could wear red and white hoop shirts of Oldham and blue shorts of Rochdale. Before anyone gets their knickers in a twist, I too am joking, I wouldn't go and support a team other than Oldham.

Thanks for that link.

Interesting to see that a club from another code, and a soccer club, are making sacrifices, and delaying certain actions,so the best interests of a ' cash limited ' rugby league club can be considered;and given time.

How different from owners of Super League clubs and their attitude and actions towards ' cash limited ' rugby league clubs.

Good luck,Salford.

During the due diligence process, it became apparent that financially remaining at the AJ Bell Stadium wasn’t an option for Salford Red Devils. In addition, they openly said that they couldn’t afford to either buy the AJ Bell Stadium or stay there as a tenant so we actively sought a second party to buy the stadium with us.

sounds a done deal

My question is, if Salford move to Moore Lane will the own the ground? Or just rent?

Henson, as far as its reported, then Salford City Council own the land and the lease, whilst Salford City FC own the architecture above it. The suggestion is SCC acquire the stands, etc and lease it out to SRD.

The AJ Bell stadium will be sold by SCC and Peel to SCFC and Sale Sharks.

All parties are in negotiation and the feeling abound from SRD supporters that whilst this is carrying on, it is probably best not to speculate. Although it might be argued that cordiality exists between the three clubs and the Council and that it more the fine details being thrashed out.

Whatever is agreed needs to have Kersal Moor residents at the heart of it. SCC should consider using any monies raised by the sale of the AJ Bell stadium to build facilities for both the local residents, the nearby school and SRD. You know hire-able 3g pitch, a community hub, etc. That and modernize the grounds. Festival style toilets aren't family friendly. Yeah a new grandstand please.

If done right, this could turn out good for SRD and therefore for RL in general.

There is another MEN article linked next to that one. It is discussing sale union buying the AJ Bell.

Here is one of the questions put the sale CEO.

Q. How did we get to this point?

It’s been an ambition of this club for a long time to own our stadium. We want a home with a brilliant atmosphere that the fans love to come to, and we want a stadium we are in control of.

One of the options we looked at was building a new stadium at the Crossford Bridge Playing Fields, in Sale, but, as was well documented, Trafford Council withdrew its support for that plan last September.

Mr Sutton said continuing to rent makes 'no financial sense' TED ART

We firmly believe that if we’re going to continue growing the club on and off the pitch, we must invest into a home for Sale Sharks.

Q. Why is it so important for Sale to own your own stadium?

First and foremost, this is about the fan experience. We want to be able to control what we can do at the stadium and, at the moment, we are very limited in terms of what we can do with things like having a band outside, running fan parks, choosing the catering and that kind of thing.

If we enhance the fan experience, we believe we’ll grow the fanbase, attract more fans to the AJ Bell and that will help us grow the club commercially too.T

Also, renting makes no financial sense. We want a stadium where we can create other revenues other than from a match day. The financial structure of the existing lease agreement is not good for the club. This is all about ensuring the long-term viability of Sale Sharks. Owning our stadium is crucial to the future of the club.

Reading that was probably the most depressing thing of the lot. The ambition and foresight in that guy's response is probably more than exists in the whole of SuperLeague, barring 3 or 4 clubs.  Salford are clearly going to just stumble on to another rental agreement, and continue to own zero infrastructure or assets.
