Moving forward. French teams in the U.K. leagues structure

Fair enough, but I dont see any other way to ensure French clubs can be commercially successful in British pyramid whilst making sure they use French players to grow the French national team.

SLs objective isn’t to improve the French national team at the expense of its member clubs though? I agree that improving them is desirable for everyone but it’s up to them to do it.

How’s about this for an idea….

The french get their own house in order, they get their own investment, they get their own governing body and they get their own TV deal and they create their own national televised sporting competition instead of sponging off the English Rugby League system.

Then, & maybe then when they have their own legitimate competition their national team won’t be such an embarrassment.

Just a thought.

And they do that how?

Didnt mention Carcassone and again, I see no benefit to non uk clubs in part time leagues. If Élite 1 can add one or two clubs that can financially match Carca over the next World cup cycle that would be success.

Yes mate, agreed with you first time around, but I was just adding the recent announcement by Carca into the equation. Just discussion points.

I think what we will see is a continued stream, although not a flood by any means, of players from Esteve and TO (in time) reserves/youth into Elite.  This will only make Elite stronger imo.  If it grows in team numbers then that’s all good.

Agreed, it’s too small and it’s great that they’ve stated their ambition to increase the size. Personally I don’t care if the teams are from villages or cities as long as they’re well supported and produce players.

Barring the ‘sponging’ comment, I think they’re quite happy doing their own thing but it’s not enough for members of this forum.

Its in all french clubs interests to improve the national team.  For a long time they’ve all gone on in their own separate ways but I think we are seeing some change now.  Robinson will add some value, in time, as well.

Neither do i Eddie.  What has to be considered is distances between the suggested towns on here.  VSL, St.Gaudens, Toulouse are all a 5 - 6 hours drive to Lyon and 4.5 to Marseilles, Avignon etc.  Start to include Bordeaux and Paris and there is mega cost for small clubs.

We have to remember that the biggest majority of players have jobs as well.

Is that travelling time by road or rail?

Rail too expensive. There will be quite a few of the catalans reserves players available this summer. There was an article in the newspaper from their manager saying they're working towards forming players for super league, they dont want to waste a players time that won't make anywhere near super league level. So the one's that arent good enough will be released and the new generation of rookies will start to be trained up.

What do elite 1 players get paid @barnyia, if anything? If Catalans release a load do you think most would end up in Elite 1 or would some be lost to the game?

Probably both. A standard elite player would probably get between 400 to 900 a month I reckon. A bit more for internationals and ex super League. With small bonuses for winning etc but not for all players. They train 3 times a week plus 2/3 weight sessions for most elite 1 clubs.

Probably less in the smaller clubs.

Good to see the dragons using their reserve side in order to develop their young players for super league over results in elite1.

Who do you think will be released? Franco? Flovie? Perez?

Alot of the players that will get released will be around 20/21/22 years old so will probably still be studying or just starting out in the real world. The closest club is Palau. Then Lézignan (45 minutes drive away as normally not much traffic) Carcassonne a good hour away and limoux a little further. A few will stop, some will stay around Perpignan in the couple of elite 2 clubs I reckon, but some may get a bruised ego and stop.

Is there any reason why Narbonne has not got its own team in Elite?  Right on your doorstep!
