Great effort from Toulouse who really should have been given the Superleague  place this season.

I’d love to see TO in SL but it would have been too big a risk this season with the pandemic. Plus having seen what’s happened to Leigh I bet they’re glad they weren’t chosen.

Incidentally there is a lot of fawning over them in this forum, primarily because they’re French, but does anyone know what they do for the community game in the Toulouse area, are there any smaller clubs and much of an open age level or youth scene besides them?

What risk, they’d be playing full time teams and having home fixtures, just like the Catalans.

The way Salford are going they’d only have had to win a few games to escape relegation, which looking at their squad is well within their reach.

Not only because they are French though.

The fact that they are another fully professional team in the game (when the sport in Europe is struggling to support fully pro squads) makes them attractive too. They add a huge amount of credibility to the game - a well known city name in a league which is full of unknown towns.

Seeing them on the horizons of Super League gives the game a boost IMO, in that we will hopefully having another well known location on the Super League map, instead of a third Wakefield team, or another club from Wigan (for example).

Who cares where teams are from? Coventry is more well known than Castleford, would you kick Cas out and get Coventry in, and replace Wigan with Sheffield Eagles?

When that decision was made nobody knew what the world would look like even weeks down the line, it would have been a crazy decision to admit Toulouse and risk them not being able to play any games. With hindsight yes, but they didn’t know what was happening then.

If that do get promoted that need to be removed from relegation for 5 years.

5 years!! If they can’t get their house in order in that time they shouldn’t be anywhere near SL.

It would be nice if Toulouse are rewarded for their endeavour to get their season as completed as they physically can, whether they’re promoted or not, as some form of thank you.

Indeed, unlike CD last season who just had to stump up £50k a time to charter a flight to their games.

Aye. Right enough... Doesn't matter where they are from.

In fact maybe a few more no-name towns could really propel the League forward. Imagine the publicity we could get if Workington were playing Featherstone in the live Friday night game. The glamour!!! (Kevin Sinfield might even have stayed in the game if we had got a few more "local" teams in).

And why would we want another French team anyway? TV companies over there will be happy to pay top dollar for Les Cats and nobody else.

👍🏾

Would you watch London Broncos v Sheffield Eagles ahead of Saints v Wire?

I think the point being made is that London v Sheffield and Sts v Wire is more appealing to the general public than Workington v Featherstone and Sts v Wire as an overall package. He is not advocating the removal of the bigger clubs, it's about the clubs which complement them not adding to existing local saturation.

Anyway, great effort and financial commitment by Toulouse to get their games played.

I think it might be because Toulouse is a city with near 500,000 people,  home to a significant business community which can be tapped into and they offer the prospect of creating a brand new rivalry for SL which may attract more TV coverage in France

Add to the fact that an increase in opportunities for French players could help the international game in Europe  (which really is the key to our survival) and this is probably why many of us are more excited about Toulouse in SL than Fev or dare I say, even Bradford.

Tapping into the business community will be the hard bit, as they already gave a huge Union and big football team in town. I wish them every success mind you, would love to see them in SL.
