Dominic Manfredi to retire from RL

This is really sad news. He has such talent, but his body won't give him a chance.

This is truly sad news. He had all the makings of a genuine star.

Such horrible bad luck with injuries.

Really sorry to hear that. One of the most gifted and naturally talented players of recent years. I always enjoyed watching him play.

Such a pity. I reckon if you were picking an England team when every player is fully fit and at his best he would be vying with Makinson and Johnstone for the wing position.

This is really sad news. I had heard that he was thinking of giving up previously but was giving it one last shot once he returned from his previous injury. This obviously did not go too well.

He was a fantastic player whose return from injury in 2018 was pivotal in Wigan getting to the Grand Final and then winning it in 2018. The go forward that he provided was absolutely fantastic. Gutted really because he certainly had the potential to be an England winger if his body would have let him.

If he’s been told to retire, besides loyalty, is risking further injury in the next few months really worth it for the lad?

Manfredi always looked impressive when he broke through and looked like being a very good player but with each injury, you can see he’s a much changed player from the kid who broke through.

Saddened by this , I’m a huge fan of his . An international class winger denied through injury of fulfilling all of his potential . Bad luck mate , and thanks for coming up and letting us see you play 👍

Very sad news, I thought he was an excellent winger (wire fan). Is he playing the rest of the year then?  I don’t get that.  Anyway, hope he discovers a role and a purpose post Wigan.  Maybe stay in the game?  These lads will have at most tens of thousands in savings after a short career (as opposed to multi-millionaire footballers) so it’s crucial they have something to move into quickly work wise...

Extremely talented speedster who has been a joy to watch. It is such a shame that the battle with injuries has forced an early retirement.

Good luck and all the best for the future, you deserve it.

Really sad news.  When fit I think Johnstone and Manfredi are the top two wingers in Super League.  Unfortunately the top two for getting injured too.

This world was never meant for one as beautiful as me.

Had the pleasure of holidaying with Dom and his parents about a decade ago , really nice lad , a crying shame he never got the England cap he deserved , I'm sure he'll take on life outside RL with the same resolve and good nature he's shown in his career
