Another SL Game Off

Recommended Posts

Cas forfeit their game against Saints because they can't raise a team. Injuries in the first team and the entire academy squad are isolating due to two positive covid results.

No one want to play us or what? That's three off in the last month. Getting ridiculous now.

Nonsense, should be re arranged. Id wait until the morning of the cup final and pull the team out. RFL is not fit for purpose.

it’s a consistent ruling. Pulling out of the final yeah right 😂😂😂

Teams don't get to rearrange a game because they've got injuries. The number isolating due to covid is less than the seven required for a postponement.

Dont have an issue with the forfeit, that's the precident.  Let's face it a patched up team, with injured and academy players would have lost to a fresh saints squad by more than the forfeit amount.

However, IMO Cas shouldnt receive any sanctions though, bearing in mind the fact 3 players came back from the England game injured and COVID has wiped out the academy including the academy/first team players.

The RFL enforcing rules the clubs all signed up to is somehow them not being fit for purpose?

Oh yeah that will show... erm... Cas.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

We have points percentage. We don't need to force clubs to forfeit. Just postpone and if there's no free weekend (which there almost certainly isn't) then the game is cancelled and no one needs to suffer or benefit from some arbitrary 24-0 win/defeat.

The fact that a team can have a squad of 27, have 7 players missing due to covid but otherwise a full fit squad and get a game cancelled as they meet the threshold, but a team with a squad of 25 could have 6 players missing due to covid and 8 players injured and be forced to forfeit is utter madness.

Players are getting injured left right and centre. Clubs are stretched thin trying to play through a ridiculous fixture schedule they brought upon themselves but it's the players who will suffer. We've already had players backing up after the international during an already congested fixture list.

We have the ridiculous situation where a club could be in with a chance of the playoffs but only have 15 players available yet fall short of the covid threshold. So then the injured players are left with the choice of playing on and risking more serious injury so their teammates might make it to a Grand Final or don't play, forfeit the game and they miss out. RL players are just hardwired to play on and on. The club owners know this and are happy to take advantage of it.

Player welfare has been given zero consideration this season and it's a joke.

Full injury list on the Cas statement. 14 first teamers out with specified injuries and Qareqare isolating as a covid contact.

Plus Turner and O'Brien failing fitness tests today for injuries not specified, leaving them with 14 fit from a 31 man squad.

Quite a few 'short term' and 'slight' injuries mentioned so I imagine they'll be fine for the cup final.

Cas usually don’t turn up for finals anyhow so would anyone notice.

It's every season.  We play too many games and we shoe horn in an international.  Covid is an extra. But that should have been factored in.  These games should not have been played at the weekend and the Weds fixtures shouldn't either.

I'd rather have lost the match than 'won' in this manner. Not brilliant for our final preparation having played only two matches in June. Not great that we have two weeks off going into the Wigan derby and it's Wigan's third game in seven days.

Points percentage have 'saved' us to an extent but the decision to schedule loop fixtures and a Magic Weekend looks worse by the day. In some ways, I'm glad we don't have a relegation battle because a team may have got relegated due to postponements, which would have been a disaster.
