Another SL Game Off

Seems that Salford delayed announcing their squad so they could get Robson over the line.

is that not a breach and do they not lose a substitution?

I thought the rule was to announce at noon 2 days prior.

glad it’s going ahead but still you can’t not adhere to rules to avoid a penalty of losing a sub by playing a player not named in initial squad.

also Salford announced Inu?? Thought they banned him internally for some time.

I wonder if the technicality here is around "announce". Is this a case of telling the RFL/SL at which point they could easily have told them that it included Robson subject to them ratifying the loan (or similar caveat)etc.. and its taken a bit of time to do that but the RFL/SL were aware but they couldnt "announce" to the general public until later due to not giving the game away on the Robson situation?

A) they had 14 players and therefore could raise a team. Lower leagues have fulfilled games with similar player numbers available

B) 3 players injured due to the made up team playing England. Isnt injurys why the made up team was pulled last time?

C)whilst the academy are alegedly self isolating its further evidence that Cas do not want to promote their youth and why they were targeted to loose their academy..

Salford haven't announced their squad for the Wakefield game - should have been released by noon.

An ominous sign?

It proved ominous alright.

I wonder who'll miss Wembley due to a positive Covid test like unlucky Dan Sarginson did in 2020.

It's getting to be a bit farcical now isn't it. Struggling to care about this season now tbh. I've got no interest in another lop sided league where they change the rules as they go along.

I'm not blaming the Super League or the RFL or anyone else, it can't reallybe helped. It's just such a s****y situation we are in again and I'm losing interest fast.

This season is already a write off, there has been more disruption so far this year than in all of 2020.

The sooner the elite get round a table and decide what the future looks like the better ala yesterday’s RU announcement.

Wether the RFU have it right or wrong they have at least made a decision allowing a clear action plan.

Fortunately nobody has changed any rules yet.

really? you are kidding with the bit in bold arent you? Season suspended.. complete re-jig of the rules, teams collapsing, clubs going out of business. Re start with fewer matches and matches being rescheduled left right and centre. No idea if/when the grand final will be on, when the challenge cup can/could be played. Where those matches will be able to be played due to disruption in the football season..

I mean this season hasnt been ideal, dont get me wrong, but the RFL put these plans in place to cope with potential disruption. So far there hasnt been any change to the rules because the plan was actually robust (the RFL have done this well TBF). The season is still going ahead, we know what is happening as a club will be relegated and one will be promoted.. this has already been announced. They decided at the beginning of the season what the season looks like, they announced it (RFU doing it now because they are out of season and have next season to sort out and announce so that all clubs know, the RFL did this before our own season).

The RFL can be criticised for so so much but they announced what would happen before the season started.. everything is going according to those plans at the moment in the most difficult of circumstances.. i think your post is both unfair and incorrect TBH

I know I'm being overly negative, it's just very frustrating.

but all within the scope of the operational rules set out at the beginning of the season. I think we all knew there would be some disruption and that is what is happening.. All sports/workplaces are having these issues.

This is a perfect example of RL fans and how depressing it can all be.

Last year we had no championships or L1 and the women's comp was cancelled.

This year we are getting plenty rugby staged at home grounds with crowds, a Wembley final round the corner with over 40k in and a pretty interesting SL comp with Catalans at the top.

People really do need to appreciate what is happening during the pandemic.

totally agree... i've been enjoying this season and what it has to offer at all levels (community game too lets not forget!).. yes there are some games falling foul of the pandemic but we just have to live with that at the moment.

Spot on and other sports have had more issues than RL

The only thing that can be criticised is the number of matches scheduled but that wasn’t/ isn’t the fault of the RFL but down to SLE & the clubs

I'll give you that to an extent.

But, as for the women's comp, a weekend or so ago we had games (plural) cancelled because there aren't enough qualified medical staff to cover the number of games now being played. Something that it is on the RFL to address and they have - according to people seemingly in the know - not prioritised doing.

So there are things the game's authorities deserve credit for handling during some of the hardest times the game has known.

And there are other things where they don't.

There will be plenty bumps with things like the women's comp, which is new and still finding its feet. Criticism is fine when warranted, but Salford players having to isolate isn't one of those times.

That said, I do think now is the time for the clubs and players to go into more severe restrictions, like the Aussie did last week.

I've had concerns that we've been a lot looser with our rules and expectations of players throughout the whole 'playing in a pandemic' time.

Again, I think it speaks to us just not having the resources other sports have to manage everything comprehensively and so having to do a 'good enough' approach.

Absolutely true and for that they should be criticised..

What medical staff were they short as thought that would be a club provision for the most part.

Yes, club provision but RFL validated. The issue, on having a brief exchange with someone who does it, appears to be that there are delays/issues with that validation meaning people who are able are doing more and more games and that isn't sustainable.

ah I see.. thats pretty poor work from the RFL.. not knowing much about it etc but you would think that, as in most organisations, some temp labour (even if it is specialised) or just re prioritisation would help make a difference.

I think we've done OK, even changing the rules of the sport to try and cope. But the move back to home grounds, plus caving in to the childish requests to be able to celebrate with man hugs from people who should know better sends out a far more relaxed message which may now cost us.

2 games postponed by Salford, and are supposed to be recheduled. As have some others.

Postponed.

How are they going fit this in.  But equally, what about the 2 teams who now also have to fit these games in. And the others.

How are the remaining games going to fit in.  I think there are about 11 weeks left before the play offs.  Will any games be played the week of the Cup Final?  This would be 16 games for Leeds.  Others need 14 or 15.

And after that, extra games for all the remaining players still standing who then more than likely will be selected for England.

Maybe that’s why we’ve kept win % in case games can’t be fitted in.

Strategic management of RL 0 big fat 0

Absent a bubble which is utterly financially impractical what exactly are you expecting them to do?

SL set out the win % as a rule at the start of the season for exactly this reason.

Covid's much more contageous variant is running rampant across the north of England right now and, whilst there are protocols and controls in place, we can't extract RL or RL players from society, or from their families and kids.
