First Warrington then Hull then St Helens and now Salford. It is getting quite ridiculous. Salford seem to be suffering from the Selective Variant. But the cancelled game at St Helens was not rearranged. It's just that Rovers were 'lucky' enough to be drawn to play St Helens and Catalans 3 times this season. Saints were fine at Wembley fine a couple of days later for their open top bus parade and then another 2 days and they cancel the Rovers game. Rovers have now had 7 successive games postponed and it just feels like it is not worth buying tickets because time and again the game gets called off. Season has become a farce mate, how many other sports would let it get to this.

Im not sure you can blame 'the sport' reading Salfords Press release "The club wanted to fulfil these fixtures but current protocols dictate close contacts cannot compete despite negative PCR outcomes." Personally I think its daft that they can't compete even if they test negative, but it isn't the RFL or Superleague imposing these rules.

But why is RL seemingly getting more close contacts than any other sport? A Scotland player at the Euros tested positive, and nobody he trained with was deemed a close contact, just the two England players he stood in the tunnel with. For whatever reason, the current protocols aren't working.

For whatever reason, the current protocols aren't working. If a player tests positive you can either do what Scotland did, and claim nobody else has been in contact with them no matter how ridiculous that claim appears, or if you don't fancy it claim half the squad now have to stand down. You could say RL has been more responsible and stuck steadfastly to the rules than other sports/businesses. If that is the case it's commendable but it's not good for the sport. You can guarantee if a SL team is going into a game missing squad numbers 1, 2, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11, 14, 17 like Swinton were at the weekend they'll have had a Covid contact and have to pull out of playing. There has to be questions asked on what protocols Salford are following. Whether they are managing the risk to reduce cases and resultant close contacts effectively too. I thought players train in small bubbles for example as one one control measure. I’m pretty sure that’s the case at trinity and from our recent positive test I believe we only had to stand down 1 close contact. Questions should be raised.
