Had to happen

Anything that starts becoming a 'safeguarding issue' (as it said in the report) cannot be tolerated by a club that wants to have a safe environment for young people.

Agree Paul.  How long the Club had known about his beliefs as well is a question only they can answer but it can’t have been just his recent remarks.

Look at the first results when you Google his name and you wonder why anyone appointed him to the role in the first place, and they should explain why. Serious misjudgement.

Fans who have met Ben Cockayne know he always has time for people, he is a friendly and approachable guy who loves having a good relationship with supporters. He is fiercely loyal and committed.

Most Hull KR fans have spoken up for him in the past because they know the man behind the image.

He has been keen to give his views on testing and vaccinations which he is entitled to do but his opinions are at odds with those of the club and most people in general.

It's important that it is absolutely clear he does not represent Hull KR when making his comments on social media and unfortunately the only way to be sure of that was for Ben to leave the club.

He has been a great servant to the club and this will not have been easy for either party but alas inevitable. He has been in the last chance saloon before however this time there can be no way back.

Ben can now exercise his right to freedom of speech if he wishes without reflecting on Hull KR or the sport of Rugby League.

I had a look at Cockayne's Twitter and in his first few tweets there were two retweets of Gillian McKeith. It's usually an exaggeration to say "that told me everything I need to know", but it's amazing that anyone gives her the slightest credence nowadays after the devastating takedown by Ben Goldacre in his book Bad Science and in this article https://www.theguardian.com/media/2007/feb/12/advertising.food

Then again, she's anti-lockdown/vax etc, so she's on the same "side" as him, and it seems that any failings can be forgiven if they're on you're "side".
