Don't worry about Hodgson mate - he's not even in the top 5 English players in his position so won't be anywhere near the final England squad.

Edit to say - its Maths....

You're all mad. Hodgson = best English hooker by far

(Appreciate this is a forum to state sporting opinions and you all have a different one from me and you arent actually mad, you just have a different opinion to I)

It may not matter to the NRL Graham but it really has obliterated it's following and future growth here

During Covid I tripled my NRL watching in terms of time watching games / NRL news / podcasts. I used to just watch the Sky broadcasts but since Covid I have bought WatchNRL etc

There has even been my little daughters walking around Bedfordshire wearing Canberra tops and explianing to anyone who asks what they are

Unless they do a U-turn then me and I suspect the majority of us here are done with the NRL

Yam a star, bed bronco! Love your posts!

Thanks for that CH.

I hope others will do the same.

I don't know if it's a coincidence but fewer people have taken part in the tipping comp this week than is usual. 😢

You are welcome Graham.  I too noticed the decline (about one third or so) in participants this week.

No where near Roby in every part of his game and not as good Clarke in the running side.

There was a reason he never played for any of the big SL clubs - just not good enough compared to the top players.

I love the idea someone cant have got a lot better playing in the nrl and is the same player he was in super league playing against second tier opposition. He was almost dally m one year. Again appreciate everyone else's opinion and I'm in the minority on this super league forum, but you're all wrong 🙂

I rate Josh highly as a player. He also represents himself and his country well in the Aussie media. He has risen to the challenge of NRL and succeeded in improving as a player. He’s a strong character who drives the team on during games.

As I’ve said in the main forum I can never forgive the NRL for this, as I also stated they don’t need and aren’t interested in my opinions but they’ll never get any respect from me again

Fitting my watchNRL sub finished together . I’m done with this season I’m disgusted by their actions in kyboshing this WC . Now was the time , this was the window , a great reemergence from the pandemic . A sign of moving on and in correlation a tremendous reflection on the game  . It would have been a tremendous showcase and it’s a kick in the gut for everyone who’s laboured so hard . Will it go ahead next year ? Who knows . I don’t think it’ll be the same now if it does . Will they cry off of it does ? Who knows . I think this is a big blow which emboldens the NRL even more . It didn’t have to and shouldn’t have happened . It’s a sickener , they move heaven and earth to carry on the NRL , they wouldn’t lift a finger for the World Cup

They won't lift a finger for the World Cup because there's nothing in it for them except inconvenience, Win the thing, been there done that many a time, does being World Champions bring any money into their game? No, they hardly play any internationals at home and never sell them out when they do. The club's don't want their player's playing extra games with a risk of injury and would prefer them to be wrapped in cotton wool during the off-season or kept in a locked box so they couldn't get involved in any misdemeanours. Forget all the rubbish about Covoid, that's a smokescreen, they never wanted or intended to come here for a World Cup this year or any other year, if they have to play Internationals then NZ, Tonga, Fiji suits them fine, their own player's in their own backyard that their own public know that they might make a little money from. That's what they want and that's what they have got.

Simon Johnson was spot on when he said the decision was cowardly. It was a cowardly decision because the explanation is misleading. Gus Gould in his rant on Wide World of Sports let it slip when after talking glibly about player safety then rambled on about potential quarantine time impinging on the agreed 8 week player break and then potentially impacting the start of the 2022 NRL season.

Why not just be honest and be straightforward and give the real reason : NRL comes 1st, 2nd and 3rd!

They have just used this as an excuse.

Listening to the Gould podcast last year, there was not one mention of the cancellation of the 2020 Kangeroo GB tour. It was all about Origin moving to the end of the season.

Australia do not need the World Cup and only pretend at supporting International Football. They believe International Football is Origin. Full stop.

I went to the WC in Aus in 2017 and the experience compared very badly against the 2013 WC.

We should press on with the WC this year as I would not believe a word from the ARL about supporting it next year. Some other excuse will be wheeled out.

We live in hope, but....

Interesting views expressed here on the motives of the Aussies withdrawal from the World Cup.

Strong views indeed.

That hits the nail on the head exactly, it's a shame to leave it here where so few eyes will see it, move it to the main forum or the headline story on the 6 O' clock news!

You’re welcome to repost it Clogiron

Unfortunately I missed the day at school when IT skills were taught, by about 15 years! It has been reposted by someone who is far less of a Luddite than myself so all is good.

Looks like wiser heads prevailed in spite of all the wannabees on this forum!

No, the wiser heads are here and are further along the COVID path. The NRL has protected its own interests by applying pressure on the Aussie organisation and its players. Immediately and in the long run it has done the international game a blow which will be difficult if not impossible to overcome. RL down under has shown very clearly where it’s priorities lie. At the top is the NRL and it’s feeder system, then Origin, then nothing else.

Were there Aussies at the Olympics? Were there Aussies at Wimbledon?

Simon Johnson:

”From a Covid perspective, I’m not sure what’s going to be different in 2022 that isn’t happening in autumn 2021. By that time, Australia will have played a whole rugby union series here, the Olympics, Paralympics and Commonwealth Games will have happened and there will have been full stadiums in football. The assurances the World Cup organisers gave were comprehensive and extremely well resourced. Personally, I don’t think postponing is a real option: if we don’t do it in 2021, there’s a chance it may not happen at all.”

I’ve previously admired the quality in depth of the NRL and followed it closely admiring the skills of it’s best players.

This has lowered my respect for the NRL. The Aussie organisation has let a lot of people down at very short notice.
