The final count down

66 games played..20 to go assuming the 4 postponed games are cancelled. All teams with 4 games left in the regular season and barring meltdowns the top2 places look sorted..probably Town top/Barrow 2nd.Big games on sunday with Crusaders visiting Town and Barrow at Donny.Donny could drop out of playoffs if they don't arrest their slump..still to play Bears/Cougars and Town at home..no away games left.

The other 4 playoff places look to be Cru/Cougars/ Hornets with Hunslet possibly sneaking ahead of Donny?

Amazing that Donny won 68-0 at Cru(13th June).Then it's the playoffs..over 4 weekends starting week after last league match..sep 18/19 !

2nd - 6th placed clubs in a 5 team play-off. If its the same as the previous 5 team play-offs, and assuming we finish 2nd and we go all the way (big IFs !!!!), then we we would get the 1st and 3rd weekends off and play on 26th September and 9th October (final).

Crazy that the final clashes with the same weekend as the SL Grand Final.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just 10 League 1 games left before the playoffs and surely the Raiders season comes down to one match...a win at Hornets and promotion is secured( no disrespect to West Wales ..but hey!).This could be some game..Hornets need to win both their remaining games to have a chance of the playoffs. Only beaten once at home(by Cougars) they still have the Bears to come.Never a happy hunting ground for the Raiders but so much depends on Sunday's result ..and Town's visit to Skolars the day before !

Huge pressure on Workington who must win at a resilient London Skolars on Saturday. If they lose then its only 1 out of the 2 games left that Barrow need to win.

If they do win at London then of course its pressure back on Barrow. Very nervy and interesting weekend ahead for both clubs. Hold on tight for a white knuckle ride.

Skolars v Town could be very interesting..if the Skolars continue with last Sunday's second half form they could cause an upset. Then there's the Thorman connection..big brother Chris v Neil .

Sunday's whistleblower at the Crown Oil arena is James Jones..he has a fascinating back story..former top Welsh RU ref..now seen the light!

I suppose he has a ready made excuse for not knowing the rules.  😜

Well that was stressful but it's the two points we needed!

Has anyone worked out the percentages for next week? Do we actually need to win?

Answering my own question, yes we do. South Wales conceded 80 today btw.

Ryan Shaw nailed a touch line conversion 30 seconds left to win the game.

We were 10-4 up with 55 remaining against 12 men, it should have been comfortable. But to be fair to the lads, few calls went against us and we scraped through.

Room for improvement but I'm going to praise Charlie Emslie. Forced into prop against a huge set of forwards and giving away quite a few kilos yet every time he tackles or get tackled he ends up dominating the collision. Could potentially be one of the best local lads we have had in a long time.

What a kick...not seen a better pressure kick.So the season didn't just come down to one match..it was one kick.If Ryan Shaw misses its second place for the Raiders if Town and Barrow both win next week..dear reader..he didn't.

A draw would have still seen you remain top

..yes..but with a win each next weekend would Barrow  have not fallen behind Town with a draw today?

Barrow..76.47%..12w/2d/3L

Town.....76.67%...11w/1d/3L

Thankfully Barrow should finish with 79.41% with a win over West Wales

Apologies that's right, I hadn't realised that

Match report here from Rochdale News, seeing as the Evening Mail can't be bothered with away games these days:

MATCH REPORT

According to our own club website we have changed to rugby union.

It seems Rochdale played most of the game with only 14 players as one was sent off.
