If used wisely and for investments that bring the right strategic value to the sport I would be for it. The problem is, what it's currently being mooted for is to prop up clubs that have been mismanaged and that's what I'm against.

Invest the money in new areas like London, Wales, Birmingham

But PE money has to be paid back.  Do you think that’s wise, giving it to Bradford?  Do you think it’s wise giving it to London who’ve gone 2 steps forward and three back.

’If’, London could settle in a new ground and continue to build from their grassroots, then just through community businesses, they will grow.  Let’s be fair, if London can’t find money from businesses in the Capital, they shouldn’t really be considering expensive PE arrangements.

Too much history

What history can you list outside a load of people not paying to watch a Cup Final Replay?

What are the key moments that mean it is more important than Wheldon Road, Belle Vue, Mount Pleasant, Post Office Road or any other old ground still played at?

A project that would bring strategic value is the purchase and redevelopment of New River Stadium home of the London Skolars. RL needs a London home and it needs a strong London club, it needs a greater presence in London, it needs London derbies. I would also propose that PE funding be used to fund not only the development of the stadium but the Skolars club itself..............

There will be an argument around how much funding would be made available and whether it would be enough, my thought is that anything less than being granted 200 million isn't worth the hassle

This is a joke isn't it?

You think Private Equity is free money don't you?

To take £200Million of investors money to redevelop New River Stadium and invest in better teams for Broncos and Skolars  means that you then have to generate an extra £200M plus say 20% to give the Private Investors a return.

How is a revamped stadium and say London Skolars playing in the Championship, so every year there are two London derbies going to generate that money. These clubs are on small very gates because these clubs are in the south and not in Superleague, Skolars only have 400 fans and already have a grandstand so they can sit down if they want.

It's nonsense and PE investors are not going to take such a silly risk. They only invest in sure fire projects where high returns are likely when those proposing the projects actually have a good business case for significant returns.

There are no "significant returns" in Rugby League, the more the directors of clubs put in the more they lose.

Your talking nonsesne

Absolutely. I don't mind fantasy RL too much, we can all dream, but to seriously try to say such dreams will be funded by private equity organisations is total nonsense on Total RL.

Doesn't he get it that all the private monies Directors already privately put into their clubs don't return any profit at all, but indeed run up paid for losses........

PE money has to be paid back with interest, that's how you get it in the first place as you understand.

Bradford put 10K through the gate in the current stadium for their cup tie with Leeds in recent years. They put 20K for the same fixtures through the gate when they were top of SL.

Stadium redevelopments alone won't attract £££Millions more income to cover the PE loan and interest and Bradford could not guarantee investors the success of the early 2000's either. When they did have that success they were losing money so the model is there.

PE would be a big fat loss and heavy debts for the club

Yeah, what about that first Wembley FA Cup final that was only notable for the number of people who didn't pay to get in. 🤔

Hatred of Bradford is one thing but you are entitled to hold this view. But don't trash the history of RL in order to facilitate it

I don't hate Bradford, and I'm not trashing history, I just think the fetishisation of Odsal is nonsense.

What other moments for the game as a whole makes it more special than anywhere else?

Thrum Hall had history, Central Park had history, Wilderspool had history, all now gone and replaced with better facilities.

I’m sick to flaming death of hearing Odsal this, Bulls that. Fine they had a successful phase in early super league but they’re entitled to sweet sod all

It would cost tens of millions to do up that ground, tens of millions which don’t exist in our game. Enough of this fetishisation of this hole in south bradford.

And the sport , PE would be guaranteed by SL , not just Bradford as a club

As you say , you wonder what planet some of the posters on here are living on ? 🤔

Why not ask the none Bradford fan who suggested as much? And dismissing the largest club crowd in RL history as 'a few people sneaking in without paying' is most definitely trashing the history of the game

What club do you support btw?

It isn't trashing anything , it was so long ago it is irrelivant

Probably worth mentioning that NO Bulls fans whatsoever on this forum ever get involved with ‘fetishisation’ as you so eloquently put it.

Most fellow Bulls fans that I know are realistic about how the club will never really move forward with the millstone of Odsal around our necks.

The people constantly starting threads about Bulls/Odsal are fans of other teams. You could almost think they were doing it to stir up trouble…

It has played host to a number of Championship Grand Finals, Challenge Cup Semi Finals, Ashes Test Matches, RL World Cup matches to be fair.

But they don't , and they won't be

They would need to otherwise the league or the RFL would be financially helping a club over another club and would be challenged over P&R.

A franchise is different as any club could apply to be a franchise. All applicants could then recieve an offer of a franchise in different locations.

Its the only way it would work.

I dont agree with it.

Apart from the fact that it isn't Bradford fans who keep banging on about Odsal, don't you think those clubs might be in a better position today if they had hung on to CP and TH instead of ending up as tenants of football teams?

Fax are a tenant but of the council not the football team, the council owns the ground.

Wigan is a reasonable point but CP was in need of major investment

I seem to vaguely remember Dave Whelan presenting plans to redevelop Central Park and bring the football team and it getting knocked back. Imagine had things been a little less fractious in those days?

But that plan would have also seen Wigan RL lose ownership of the ground.

Imagine how angry you would be if you had to go and stand in odsal to watch your rugby every two weeks rather than for a one off away game.

A lot of memories for Bradford fans held in old lady odsal but the vast majority of Bradford fans would snatch your hands off for a nice modern 10k stadium built on the old Richard Dunne site over the road. Shared with Bradford Park Avenue.

But Bradford are skint, the sport is mostly skint, the RFL are skint and Bradford Council are skint so we shuffle along towards the drop in funding…

I'd be interested to know from Bradford fans, if a new stadium was delivered over the road, do you think it would help the club attract more fans immediately? Because if so there's a business case for private capital to come in there. Yes, to make a profit from Bulls and PA as tenants, but the clubs benefit too.

I do feel in rugby league that growth that is there for the taking is often left untouched, because we cant internally generate even modest funds to make simple investments.
