I don't see event management as an issue for major finals like the Grand Final, Challenge Cup or Magic. What I will say is that every league game should be treated as an event and an opportunity to bring new people into the sport, that approach is missing within SL currently. The customer experience for standard league games is way off atm.

And you think the Hearns can change that ?

They do single TV events , usually including copious amounts of Liquid stimulant , and from what I've seen , plenty of non liquid stimulants as well

They are not what we need

Yes. It is.

Matchroom won't solve that.

So what did they do to improve the customer experience at Leyton Orient ?

I don’t think that the clubs in the lower leagues should have any say about how the top clubs and competition is run.

And by the same token the top clubs should not call the shots regarding clubs outside of the top leagues.

So you’re advocating a split between the two!

Why do the current top clubs get to control the major decisions, they’re there due to a quirk of fate and timing! Had SKY pumped their money in a few decades earlier many of today’s top clubs would have been left out in favour of Swinton, Halifax & Featherstone!

Have you been to a Leyton Orient home game and have you spoken to any fans of that club who've voiced dissatisfaction with their experience at Orient home games?

In your opinion

Just as it's yours that we should give Eddie Hearn a large truck of cash as if no other options exist.

I wouldn't give any promoter loads of cash. I would however allow them to take a big percentage of any increase above and beyond where we are. That is a win win. Whether such a proposition is attractive enough to a promoter is a different matter but I do believe such things like tge Auckland 9s were done on that type of basis.

There are enough on here who claim they know how to do that...

Anyway, presumably you also want him to fund any change(s) so that he, not the sport, is taking the risk? Something he'd surely be happy to do if it's going to lead to all those riches.

Excellent. When’s the next one of those?

So you summarise bringing in Eddie Hearn who has a successful and global sports business that can help RL as 'giving him a truck load of cash'?

Do you really think that is the be all and end all of what people are proposing?

I would prefer Hearn get 'a truck load of cash' than Nigel Wood and Robert Elstone who actually did get that and cost the sport hundreds of thousands of pounds and leave the sport in a worse off condition

How much control would you also like to surrender?

He could be hired in or become part of a RL Commission with other specialists and successful experts.

But, not sure if it was you but it has been said on here, the suggestion has been made that we could give Matchroom some of our key events like the Challenge Cup final.

Now, do you think someone like Hearn will be remotely interested in the Challenge Cup final if there's a danger that an unfashionable, unsupported or team that hasn't signed up to his agreements, qualifies?

Thats where I disagree slightly. I don't think the sport will benefit solely by 'giving him or Matchroom' these events.

As I've mentioned on here previously, he has successfully taken boxing forward because of his strategic approach to digital and social media, for example, the DAZN deal, DAZN and Matchroom online content and embracing platforms like IFL TV.

I also think he has alot to offer in regards to match day presentation, the TV production and presentation, media strategy, general marketing and marketing of players. The event management side of things I would include in that scope but not just for those events, there needs to be a consistent approach and methodology to the game day experience. I see those as the overall package of benefits he brings to the party.

I wouldn't give him any responsibility for governance or overseeing grass roots activities

Have you seen the DAZN boxing coverage? Very much like The Hundred, the approach is fresh and modern. Eddie Hearn did that. I'd love to see TV games with that level of production.

We own the lease at Odsal thanks to the previous regime at the RFL, which is good news for the current owners of Bradford Bulls. What's wrong with that? 🤣🤣🤣

If the Hearns were that good at team promotion Leyton Orient would now be a premiership club.

Snooker is sustained by Chinese money and Darts is marketed as an oiks ###### up.

This thread  is a complete waste of time can we move on:)

Yes- Hearn still hasn't sold out around 50k world darts tickets yet

Go to darts on thur in Dublin at grand prix and its 1k in a 10k arena

Their very successful and market darts superbly, but RL totally different and if Hearns in RL this forum would be full of their failure

I'm not sure I believe Frank Hearn's comment about boxing.

They've been involved in British Basketball for the last 5 years, I'd be interested to see how much impact they've had there in that period.

The boxing comment about “500 followers” (if he said that...he’s a chancer so probably did) is nonsense.

In the 1960s, Muhammad Ali got folk in the UK to listen to boxing matches on their wirelesses in their droves. In the same decade Henry Cooper was as much a household name as Georgie Best.

Boxing has always been big time in Britain (home of the sport), from prizefighting to the pro era.

Eddie does deserve credit though, because he’s somehow managed to sell an inferior product, and in even bigger venues. It’s mind boggling how he does it. Benn vs McClellan, two world class fighters, yet it was held in an arena and shown on terrestrial tv. There hasn’t been a fight of that calibre in Britain in a long time, and yet he’s able to put Groves vs Froch, what would have been on the undercard of Benn vs McClellan, in Wembley stadium and on box office.

Boxing is probably at it slowest ebb globally in its entire history, with no hall of fame level active fighter (bar maybe Álvarez), no Vegas level fight to drag out celebrities there for the show. But Eddie has bucked the trend and kept it high profile in Britain and elevated ordinary fighters.

The heavyweight scene is appalling, with Joshua, who was out on his feet against an over the hill 42 year old Klitschko who would have finished him had he been just slightly less past his best, as the main man in the division. Eddie has managed to polish a t££d.

He’s not working with a Lewis, Tyson, Holyfield or Bowe, or even a Frank Bruno or Oliver McCall. He’s working with a C level fighter, and has worked miracles in promoting him.

Not convinced. Even in Swinton's 1st division heyday of the early 1960s they didn't have two pennies to rub together. They couldn't even afford to maintain their own stadium. I know...I was there.

After coming back into this thread, two things strike me:

1) I can only assume that the people citing DAZN as a success haven't looked at their accounts lately.

2) It's still not massively clear what problem people want the Hearns to solve - and if any such problem is one that RL needs to solve. If the argument is "he got some Arabs to bid for heavyweight boxing" then, you know what, I'll go and stick some rugby posts in the desert outside if Riyadh.

I dont know about the problems, but the target should be new customers,  people complaining about magic weekend attendance, challenge cup attendance being down.

Its because your fishing in the same hole,  same people, slowly walking away. But not being replaces by new fans, new customers, new pairs of eyes on the product.

And this is pre covid as well.
