Rugby League needs to do better and tap into to people from all backgrounds. There are a lot of athletic youngsters from diverse backgrounds out there who would make very good players.

I've said this before, some of the RL heartlands are rich in diversity, cultures and ethnic minorities.

To think the sport hasn't really done anything to try and encourage people from these backgrounds is unfathomable.

I recently went along to Bradford Park avenue to watch Kashmir play their first game as an intentional football team, although a friendly with the Chagos Islands, the atmosphere was vibrant, with many families, women, a lot of them waving flags and wearing t shirts.

Not to mention the smell you'd associate with Kashmiri cuisine

It's fantastic that a player from Asian descent has made it as a rugby league player. The more the merrier for me as I've always considered our game to be inclusive and for everyone regardless of religion, race, colour or anything else but we need more. Ikram Butt is another fantastic example. I think of rugby league as a sport open to all.
