How many England fans are expected to travel out for this international?

Given that the team has not played an international match since 2018, you would imagine loads will be travelling. Yet for some reason on this forum, inhabited by supposed 'diehard' fans of the game.... It appears that almost none of the English contributors are travelling over. 

If people on a dedicated rugby league forum aren't even going, then will anyone else be going?? And therefore more to the point..... What on earth makes you think that the "licence payers want" this match televised??

Not sure that the 100 or so regular contributors to this forum are a significant sample, yet a fair few are travelling from what I’ve read (flights booked etc), and are tickets even on sale?

The numbers travelling will not be high, they never are when they travel to France for their own club games, but you knew that anyway.  

This Forum can’t be used as a comparison either considering the number of RU agitators and those going through double identity crisis we have.

It highlights a real issue we have in the game that may other sports wouldn't even have to consider - they would have somebody queuing up to show an England international. Those other sports aren't confined mostly to some small, unfashionable, economically disadvantaged towns in the north of England and similar small towns in the south of France though, so they can draw audiences from a lot bigger segment of the populations of both countries than RL can do.  Consequently they have more appeal to broadcasters.  Playing the match in a small town like Perpignan won't help with that either.

Where does it matter where the game is played, do you honestly think people are more likely to tune in if the game is in for example Marseille rather than Perpignan? Perpignan (metro area population 260k, so not a small town) is the best place to get a full stadium, which will attract more tv punters than 10,000 rattling around the Velodrome.

It matters a lot.  Playing in a small town like Perpignan (2017 population 120,000 making it 30th in the ranking of French cities by population) is likely to reinforce the negative stereotypes about the sport.  Big time sports play their Internationals in big cities and they're big events which draw big crowds, playing an International in a place like Perpignan conveys the image that game is small time and lacks broad appeal.

Would you rather a full Brutus on tv, or 10,000 in a massive stadium in Paris or Marseille? Also as this is so hastily arranged are you sure the big stadia were available?

Your question assumes that the former would hide the fact of the crowd being only 10,000 in that case.  Why do you assume that?

What I would like is a crowd of over 25,000 in one of those big cities, as happened in the late 1940s and early 1950s.  That's what the game should have and what it needs to have to break down the negative views of it among the population at large.

Have you forgotten how the game was decimated in France due to German and France’s own, cowardly, Vichy government?  Still now, prejudices remain.  Some French will not speak about those times.

The most obvious place to hold the game,imo, would be Toulouse, for a larger capacity, but GB will be a full house and that’s all we can ask for.  Marseilles, Lyon are too far out for a last minute arrangement anyway.

Crowd prediction is 6/7000 however if the Dragons get to the SLGF and win it I think personally it will have a real positive effect.

The problem with the FFR13 is basically its a voluntary organisation working in the passed.

Voluntary bodies of all kinds tend to attract the wrong kind of people (Not all but most) which leads to jealousy and bitter infighting.

I wonder sometimes if the new president realises what he has taken on.

The Elite 1 tried to break away from the FFR13 around 20 years ago to form a professional set up however it was blocked legally at the time.

Yes definitively. Also  Madame Hermeline Malherbe leader of the Pyrénées-Orientales Department  is often seen next to the  Guasch group at the matches at Brutus. He is very well connected in the town and beyond I think.

I wasn't trolling anyone. 

Some misguided northerner was bleating on about "giving the licence payers what they want" when there is absolutely no evidence whatsoever that "the licence payers" want to watch this friendly international rugby league match. The fact that it is only likely to sell about 7000 tickets backs this up, as does the fact that hardly any fans from the UK will be bothered traveling to watch it live. 

There are 26 million TV licences in the UK. That population clearly does not "want" on average to sit down and watch this Rugby League friendly!!!

Get a grip FFS. The wider public couldn't care less about this game.

What do the wider population care about, there are few if any tv programmes that get the majority of people watching. The fact is enough people would watch to make it something the bbc should show, let’s face it RL just isn’t woke enough for them to be interested in.
