NRL off-season shenanigans start early

The NRL is looking at a transfer window (or two) to stop all of the mid season transfer wrangling.

I suggest they also introduce a scandal window as well.  The transfer window is used to fanalise your squad for next year and the scandal window is used to allow additions for all the players arrested and/or banned for their end of season behaviour from the previous year.

The NRL appears to have a big issue with recreational drugs and it needs to get on top of it fast

recreational drugs are as easy to get hold of as a mcdonalds these days in this country too, its a big issue everywhere not just in the NRL - the whole situation is out of control and needs a new, strong and fresh approach from the people in charge of law and order

No it just needs professional athletes to start behaving professionally and not like total knobheads. The vast majority manage to do it, it’s just the small minority who ruin the good name of the sport.

if Walsh and some Melbourne players now end up unemployed for the next few years then tough titty.

am afraid drugs are a norm and widespread in our society  now for people of all ages and backgrounds , the vast majority is prob not as vast as you would like to believe

Both of these can be, and are, true at the same time.

If they're good enough, or someone thinks they have value, they'll be employed straight away.

Apparently there is now an agreement between the NRL and the RLPA that the players can't be drug tested in the off-season. Now that has worked out well and is potentially a green light for players to use recreational drugs when their season has finished.

Is that just for recreational drugs? It would be odd if they could Roid up over the off season. On the recreational drugs, I couldn't care less, the legal drugs of alcohol and tobacco are as bad, or worse than a bit of coke or weed, in my opinion.

I imagine ASADA runs all PED testing while the NRL themselves probably run their own recreational drug testing in-season. Believe the NRL has a 3-strike policy on illicit recreational drugs whereby players get a warning, then counselling and a suspension and then get a longer-term ban on the third breach.
