Two appalling decisions that potentially changed the outcome. We talk about players being able to handle the big match occasions but what about refs?

Refs will make mistakes just like players, and thry are making a lot of decisions in what is a very fast sport.

Make a list of the mistakes the ref made (in your opinion) then compare it to the list if mistakes the players made, see which list us bigger....

What will get forgotten in the next couple of days, is that had the ref allowed it to play on it would've still almost certainly finished 12-10 to Saints.

Anyone complaining about whether the ref should or shouldn't have given a penalty at the play the ball hasn't been watching Rugby League for the last 15 years.

Isn't what happened a newish interpretation? It used to be a penalty for incorrect play the ball. Now I think the refs think it is an easy call as it's not a penalty, but a Saints player got involved after the Tackle was complete, trapped Tomkins head between his knees and got the ball as a reward. That hasn't been happening for 15 years.

And had he given the penalty that it should have been?

So this is how it goes is it?

One of the best finals in years and most of the comments are about the ref.

We do this so we'll don't we.

It's sport. The discussion is about what happened on the field. About the game.

We need to stop worrying about sanitising every discussion about the game.

Controversy is a huge part of the entertainment of sport. It's all good.

The ball was played, and had he let it carry on nobody would remember it now. It's only because it was given a penalty the other way, that people are saying it should've been a penalty to Tomkins instead.

I don't agree with the decision, and think it was odd and especially odd timing but it wasn't particuarly controversial that he didn't give a penalty to Tomkins.

If you think a highly controversial refereeing decision in the 78th minute would be ignored in any sport in any country around the world, then you're wrong.

If you are making a decision on an incorrect ptb, and the (non) tackler has the guy in a headlock with his knees, of course that is controversial.

It's not givee it to Saints or ignore.

Hmm a last minute call in a final with an ‘incorrect play the ball’ favouring the traditional big club… what like the one Liam Moore called against Salford in last year’s Challenge Cup?

Just a coincidence I guess??

I just was hoping no one would mention that. It still rankles.

I just think they are ######. Open to accusations when they are just not very good when it matters. Possibly over familiar with some, clearly chummy to others, easily swayed and frightened of certain few and cast with the same make up as go along fudge mentality of the RFL.

Punch on Maloney, Penalty try, incorrect play. Really poor. Job done.

You can’t PTB whilst in that situation. He doesn’t play it he gets the penalty.

Happy to disagree. I'm not sure why the defender gets the free pass in that situation. And he wasn't even involved in the Tackle.
