There is unrest in the Tigers playing group after Luke Brooks inexplicably beat Adam Doueihi for the club’s 2021 player of the year award in a confounding decision from the club.

The Daily Telegraph reported Tigers players were blowing up after a three-man panel awarded Brooks the best player of the season ahead of clear favourite Doueihi.

“It is a really interesting one and Michael Maguire, Adam Hartigan and board member Danny Stapleton vote for the player of the year,” Rothfield said on The Big Sports Breakfast.

It's an improvement. I wonder if I was the only one who sent them a message asking to get rid of the go faster stipe and claws a few months ago? It certainly was one for the kids as the players said back in 2000.

The Wests Tigers will need more than a new logo to see themselves as title contenders in 2022....The Tigers along with the St George Illawarra Dragons are the biggest train wrecks in the NRL. The Tigers old logo looks way better.....The new logo, how did they come up with that. Hold a competition between 100 local 3 year olds to see who came up with the best logo?

Should be replaced with the words Western Suburbs Magpies and a Magpie logo.....It's all the Magpies money keeping the joint afloat.

Hmmmm. Training at Concord next year, playing most matches at Leichhardt, if we were playing at Lidcombe Oval I possibly would agree with you.

Still mostly all Western Suburbs Magpie money propping the place up....With nothing coming from Balmain Tigers.

  • Graham changed the title to Wests Tigers - new logo etc

The Wests Tigers have reportedly parted ways with their general manager of football, Adam Hartigan, as the club attempts rebuild after wide-ranging internal review.

The Sydney Morning Heraldreported on Friday that Hartigan had left the Tigers with Tim Sheens now to oversee the roster.

Tigers move to recruit Raiders’ hooker Josh Hodgson has been put on hold to allow new director of football Tim Sheens to look over the roster.

The Tigers announced last week that football boss Adam Hartigan would leave the club effective immediately, while at the same time Sheens will begin his new role at Concord.

One of Sheens’ responsibilities will be to oversee the Tigers’ salary cap situation, which has caused a delay in all current contract negotiations, including Hodgson’s.

The Tigers are set to unveil their new-look football department in the coming days.

The Canberra Times reported that Panthers hooker Api Koroisau is also of interest to the Tigers.

We have been waiting since 2016 for Jacob Liddle to take over at #9 but he only averages about 12 games a year which means we aren't developing any regular spine combinations. Whatever Hodgson's deficiencies, apart from the 2 injury-hit years at Raiders - where he still played almost as many games as Liddle- Hodgson averages about 22 games/year. It's too much of a luxury to keep renewing a guy as your first-choice #9 when it means a steady stream of signings specifically to cover for him.

I see Joey Leilua has fired a parting shot at Michael Maguire for an alleged untruth about a train-and-trial offer (or not) to him and a dig at Maguire for as Leilua saw it always blaming the players and never himself.

If he'd just tried delivering on the field then teams would be queueing up to give him better money and he wouldn't be spending his days on Instagram.

Wests Tigers- speculation that they might be losing star forward Luciano Leilua on the open market after delayed negotiations over a contract upgrade and extension.

The Daily Telegraph reported Leilua could elect to hit the open market on November 1 if his contract demands are not met.

The 25-year-old is contracted until the end of 2022 on a deal worth $450,000 a season, but is seeking a contract upgrade to $700,000 for next year.

If he is granted the upgrade Leilua would then negotiate a contract extension to remain at the club for a further four years until 2026.

Leilua is coming off his best season in first grade and was one of the Tigers’ best players in 2021, with his stocks at an all-time high.

Leilua’s contract talks have dragged on since August due to delays associated with conjecture around coach Michael Maguire future, former director of football Adam Hartigan’s departure, the club’s internal review and the appointment of Tim Sheens.

Leilua is getting restless with no deal for an extension on the table with the deadline just over a week away.

I can't imagine the way his brother has exited the club helps matters. Nor the prospect of Maguire being there as head coach.

As for Joey Leilua who was less than complimentary to Madge on Twitter in the last few days:

Quote

Leilua has received a substantially better offer from Joel Thompson, who retired earlier this year.

The former Dragons, Manly and Raiders player emerged as one of the most respected players in the game in recent years for the work he has done in the community.

Now Thompson has offered to help Leilua get back on his feet with a career switch into the transport industry.

“Any NRL players without contracts like Joey and want to earn a decent wage, get in contact with me,” Thompson posted on Twitter.

“I’ll get you trained up and working on the tracks. The average rail salary in Australia is $122,500 per year. (Also this offer is for anyone).”

You reckon Joey will go for this?

Wests Tigers director of football Tim Sheens has denied the ongoing rumours surrounding the future of Luke Brooks, with the halfback set to remain at the club next year.

The place for Brooks is as a development officer or PE teacher IMO. I'd prefer seeing Alex Twal wearing No.7 than Brooks.

  • 2 weeks later...

Wests Tigers halfback Luke Brooks is reportedly on the cusp of signing with the Knights as Mitchell Pearce’s replacement.

Brooks has been linked to Newcastle since Pearce dropped the bombshell last month that he wants to immediately join Super League side Catalans.

The Knights believe he is a suitable replacement at No.7 and Brooks shares the same management as Newcastle coach Adam O’Brien.

Brooks still has two years to run on his current Tigers contract that takes him through until the end of the 2023 season.

Channel 7s Michelle Bishop revealed on SEN radio that Brooks is likely on the move as Tigers recruits Jackson Hastings and Oliver Gildart arrive from England.
