Obviously not much point having 4 half backs where one of them is never going to play. Will have to hope things are not getting desparate otherwise we might have to call off the next 5 new signings. Improvement so far to last year Yes - certainly a good idea to start the season with a few forwards this time. Of course, also weakening one of our relegation rivals Eagles have picked up Martyn Reilly and Liam Kirk from Oldham, plus Vila Halafihi and Mikey Wood from Hunslet. Some potential selection dilemmas. Is Welham staying on? Blackmore in the mix as well with Pickersgill at fullback. Great news on Mark and thats some pack we will be turning out. Like the youngsters announced in the backs so far with Nisbett (Saints), Hatton (Widnes) and Roberts (Swinton). Especially curious about Luis Roberts, Leigh Lad, who was at Salford - winger only 19/20, 6'4'' and 15 stone. Disappointed we missed on Holdroyd who went to Widnes. They relied so much on Hood in recent years they needed a decent hooker to fill that void. With Lussick & Roby he wasn't going to get much opportunity at Saints next year so a good move all round. 1 St.Helens - The Home of Rugby Champions Saints Men's team - Triple Champions & Double Winners ; Saints Women's team - Treble Winners ; Thatto Heath - National Conference Champions

Roberts played on loan for Valencia Huracanes in their 102-14 defeat against Fev a couple of years ago, so when Leigh play Fev this year his experience of how to come so close to conceding under 100 points to Fev could come in handy.

On a more serious note, Leigh's spending should see them just about be pre-season favourites for the Championship, was listening to agent Craig Harrison the other day who reckoned they would be spending far more than any other club with Fev and Newcastle the next biggest spenders. Leigh need to transfer that spending into success of course and we are still waiting to see who the coach is, as well as what more big signings they have to come. Their pack does look very strong, not quite so convinced by their backs yet though presumably there will be more signings to follow. Halifax seem to be having by far their best recruitment for many years, at least on paper, and you'd think anything less than last year's finishing position of 3rd would be a major disappointment. They could still use a bit more grunt in the pack but maybe that is still to come. certainly the pressure will be on Grix this year as on paper it should be the best Fax team for years. Newcastle clearly look to be the team likely to make the biggest jump based on recruitment so far, whether that can take them up to challenging the top teams remains to be seen. York have made a couple of big signings for their pack lately, at the very least they should be a whole lot better than last year. Bradford have made some ok-looking signings but not sure they are ready to take a big step forward. You can never rule Batley out and they should be very competitive again despite not having the budget of other clubs. Still early days though as plenty more signings to come. one thing I will say, all the doom and gloom about how Championship clubs would struggle under the reduced TV money arrangements doesn't seem to have been borne out by the signings, unless agents are just frantically grabbing any deal they can get for their players.
binosh
Featherstone have to start as favourites after last year they will be in the habit of winning and have recruited well again, could be a tough season for my team Leigh who will need to gel quickly and strengthen the squad still. For me the pressure is on Halifax who finished 3rd in 2021 and have spent more this time than they have in recent years. York need a good year after spending large and and having a shocker of a 2021 aswell. Both Widnes & London where poor if being honest and the over achievers Batley & Whitehaven will definitely want to kick on in 2022. Dewsbury can definitely scare a few of their signings click. Workington & Barrow will certainly take plenty scalps in the early rounds when their pitches are normally bogs. 2022 looks to be a very competitive Championship.

From rumours flying around town our BIG signings are yet to be announced, I also believe we will be spending more than we did in SL due to player availability.
