They've done a regional draw for the first time ever and didn't tell the clubs, also the round after is all set up too, match 10 v match 14 etc, the winner of Carcassonne v Lézignan plays the winner of Ille a Catalan to keep it local, the only problem is is that all the better teams in elite 1 and 2 are in the same area/side of the first draw,

Madness!

Alan, your lads have just played 3 home games at Domec so far. USC XV in Pro 2 have played 15 in total. No wonder that the L' Independant' daily is showing the other code day after day front page and inside. Only Lezignan have had a bit of a look in.

The 3 Aude clubs deserve better - starting in the new year with Limoux hosting Carcassonne and a week later the Canaris at Domec with FCL in the Cup.

The federation have messed up, there's only 14 fixtures in the last 16. So it would mean only 7 teams  in the quarter finals,

Luc Lacoste needs to have a word with his team, all this after a lobsided regional draw etc. It would be like having a Yorkshire draw a Lancashire draw, a Cumbria draw and a southern draw up to the semi final for the challenge cup in the UK. Madness.

I think the Federation got it wrong around Toulon,Lyon et al. It makes you think now having just 8 sides in Elite for the time being and making that strong. In the Aude all three clubs have links with 2or 3 local village sides. And that should be a requirement for inclusion.

They've managed to sort out the draw, before the quater final draw the 7 teams that are left are put into a bag and the first one drawn out goes straight into the semi final. So only 3 games in the quarter final, this is the federation that wants the 2025 world cup!

Interesting to see re-formed Pamiers (Federal) from the Ariege department turn over Realmont (National) in the last round. Will host another Tarn side Albi (Elite 1) next up. They are not far from Toulouse too  - the more the merrier.

Three ties in the Perpignan area worth a look at Pia v Avignon, Baho v Limoux and a Catalan derby Ille sur Tet v St Esteve.

  • 2 weeks later...

The game of the round this weekend is being streamed at the lovely L'Aguille venue in Limoux for the visit of neighbours Carcassonne Sunday KO 4pm BMT. Will be the 3rd Aude derby of the sixth encounters .Should be a belter. I though the the best of Elite 2 Villegailhenc - Pia would have been staged Saturday. But on the 'Trieze' web site says it's on the Sunday. Hope it's wrong because VARL(Carcassonne reserve team) and would have got quite a lot of Canaris fans for the best season so far Pia unbeaten - and the just one loss for Villegailhenc.

Come on Limoux, I’ve got twenty quid on them to win the GF at 8/1 (was pleasantly surprised to see Sky Bet offering odds).

Villeneuve v Catalan called off already, COVID in the Villeneuve team, I don't think it'll be the only one to get called off, only elite 1/2 and elite juniors and elite women allowed to play, lower division, all kids and teenage leagues on hold for three weeks including all lord derby cup games, the only sport in France to put competitions on hold,

Any idea why they’ve decided to cancel when other sports haven’t?

That's the most baffling thing, I know the lower division teams said they need to be able to sell food and drinks or they'd lose too much money, as for the kids there's no reasonable at all, especially as they've only played around 10 games in 3 years due to covid, and the licence prices have stayed the same and never been reimbursed, even last year when they didn't play a single game.

Hopefully it doesn’t mean kids are moving to Union, so they can actually play.

All games off this weekend, the clubs have been asked by the fédération to cancel, next week should have been the cup which won't be played until the end of January or maybe later, the games from this weeks cancellation will be played mid February. So Lézignan won't have played since early December, they should play in a couple of weeks time on the 23rd Jan, carcassonne last played mid December and won't play again until at least 29th January.

Alan disappointing. All 8 games in Pro 2 union to be played. Agen-Bayonne was played last night and Carcassonne heading for Mont-de-Marsan tonight

17 teams eliminated for the cup without reason or notice to the clubs, somehow keeping the same draw of carcassonne be Lézignan, the federation are refusing to re draw the cup, some of the clubs eliminated aren't happy, Villefranche have been eliminated and they're joint top of elite2 but a team from the third division is still in the cup due to its geographic position!!!

I hope the French don't do the draws and rules for the world cup in 2025!!!

Yes Gordon only 2 cases of COVID at Carcassonne and the same at limoux, it's the federation that told the teams that the games will be called off. Madness.

Pretty sure both USC and Mont de Marsan had more Covid cases than the Aude sides but played on. If the local clubs Chairmen / Coaches were happy why not play. The game was going to be 'streamed' and would give fans in the region something to look forward too ahead of the Dragons and TO start-up in early February

Not sure the on-screen grid is intentional, but it isn't too intrusive. I haven't seen the French women's game much, so it'll be interesting to see the standard.
