Ins and Outs for 2022

Let's see if we can have a single thread for player movements ahead of next season, instead of it all being fragmented. It works on TRL's Australian RL forum, after all.

I've just seen the announcements from Wigan that they have signed Cade Cust (halfback). This probably means they won't be going after Jacob Miller, after all.

Already announced: Abbas Miski, Patrick Mago and Kaide Ellis.

As well as Thornley, (probably) Wigan's first Brazilian player, prop Ramon Silva.

I’ve defended the Cust signing & I think Mago will be good also but these latest 2 signings added to Miski are just plain bad.

I get why you'd say that with Thornley but unless you've been watching London Broncos first team and u20's team on a regular basis, I'm not sure how you could say that on Miski and this kid Silva.

They will both need to settle in and try and earn a spot somewhere but it's a complete guess as to how they will turn out. I wouldn't have thought the young prop would even play first team next season and will more than likely cut his teeth in the reserves.

After last years capitulation and the continuing drain to the NRL,the team, club & supporters were crying out for some real quality recruits not the likes of Miski who I saw getting outclassed by young Haven winger Bulman & another young forward to add to the raft of young forwards we already have.

Hopefully they come in the form of Cust, Mago and Kaide Ellis. None are particularly well established but all come over with some promising reports. The other three signings are more of a gamble in some ways but won’t cost the earth.

The biggest signing for Wigan and the difference between us being successful or not won’t come on the field though, it’ll be the one in the coaching seat.

Cust and Mago look the best bets for me. Who can tell though - KPP came from nowhere to be a proper first team threat.

A lot of in’s so far, in order of decency:

Good additions: Cust and Mago (plus I suppose French and Field being fit “like new players” blah blah)

Squad/17: Ellis, Thornley

Potential: Miski, Silva

Out’s: Hastings (a miss), Gildart (MIA for the last 3 years), Manfredi (MIA for even longer), Clubb (thank God), Bullock (on the outer under Lam but seemed to have potential), Clark (never played)

So, it wouldn’t take much, such as O’Neill developing into an attacking 9, for next season to be better than this one. If we actually under performed because of Lam rather than lack of talent, Peet knows what he’s doing and we keep Field and French fit, then we could be much much stronger.

Ramon Silva is a talent and could progress to bigger things. But like KPP before him, he won't have been signed with a 2022 first team spot in mind. But whenever I've seen, he's looked strong, mobile and aggressive.

(Tangential): I hope that the London pipeline doesn't suffer with the Broncos move to p/t. Somebody needs to take a strategic view.

I've asked you this before, and you never answer, but have you a source for this? It seems very, very unlikely to me.

It’s easy enough to find out which teams academy a Super League player came through. As far as I’m aware nobody has gone through and totalled up the numbers from each club, but to me it’s obvious Leeds produce more than any other club, there are Leeds academy products scattered across Super League as there are in the Championship.
