I'm a massive advocate of playing aggressively, and i don't think we we're too bad yesterday with the weather etc, but there's an element of not valuing a wicket and being stoic enough to dig in. You still have to earn the right to be aggressive.

I'm confident we'll trend towards this, but it's frustrating as well as entertaining

Let's just hope we're as much of a second-innings specialist side as we seemed to be earlier in the year.

Seriously, if SA have a lead of less than 150 then England will think they have a chance of batting them out of the game.

Whether that's true or not ...

We’re ( obviously ) going to need a big second innings but the benefit of bowling last is you can put pressure on a side even with a modest target , and SA are notoriously flaky and not a great or experienced batting side . Of course you’ve got to get in to this position first .

England's best hope here is that the SA team are fairly rubbish in the field, especially slips.

And Crawley goes trying to put pressure on spinner. 3rd ball of his spell.

It's just stupid batting.

That was ... stupid.

That's the 2nd wicket that that umpire has got wrong that I thought "that's stone cold out" on first glance. He's not having a great game there.

Are we not winning just from being super duper positive and having lots of belief and a great team spirit and no fear and stuff?

This is a fairly devastating exposure of England, mainly because I can see that SA are clearly misfiring in some areas. SA taking all their chances would have finished this by now.

60 partnership from Broad and Stokes, and they'll be in the dressing room saying "we need more of that!" when they were actually damnably lucky, and not in an "I earned that fortune" lucky way

All over. Given the time lost to rain, that's pretty close to being a 2-day test.

This is awful for the ground itself who'll be out of pocket on the tickets from the weekend, along with all the hospitality money. "Bazball" might be entertaining, and good for flat-track bully games, but it's shocking as a sustainable way to play test cricket.

I don't think Bazball was massively at fault. We were just ######.

I did try to tell you all that SKY have been the prime movers in Engfish Cricket and now there is proof in the print media

Most interestingly :

And executives expressed a preference for their most valuable cricket content taking place earlier in the summer, when their schedule is less packed.

So contrary to the agitprop from supporters of the 💯 and the ECB . It is not the 💯 that is the main driver behind the extended Cricket deal, which depreciates in value due to inflation, each year, but Test Cricket..😲

Still on the positive side no clash with the Rugby League Challenge Cup final on 12th August....

I'm happy with that.

It made no sense playing matches while The Hundred is taking place. It's supposed to be an elite competition, so you're devaluing it when some of the best players are dropping out half way through, or pulling out entirely.

Likewise, it's great that the Test Series won't clash with either The Hundred or the Premier League.

No offence but I find that so sad
