Decent start exposing the weakness of the current West Indies test team: the batting.

Would, like everyone else, to see a few wickets for Jimmy.

Nice wicket on debut for Gus Atkinson with his second ball ever in test cricket.

WI 56-3 after 26 overs.

West Indies are 100 for 7. Judging by the commentary, although the batting's been vulnerable, there have also been some great catches.

No wicket for Jimmy yet.

Highlights are on BBC4 (due to Wimbledon) at 7pm.

Just seen THAT runout on the BBC4 highlights.

Even Jonty Rhodes would be impressed by that throw!

So Jimmy, in fantastic form and physical shape, gets dropped to build for the future, yet they've selected Woakes (35) and Wood (34) for the second test against the worst West Indies batting lineup I've ever seen.

World's gone mad.

"I am the avenging angel; I come with wings unfurled, I come with claws extended from halfway round the world. I am the God Almighty, I am the howling wind. I care not for your family; I care not for your kin. I come in search of terror, though terror is my own; I come in search of vengeance for crimes and crimes unknown. I care not for your children, I care not for your wives, I care not for your country, I care not for your lives." - (c) Jim Boyes - "The Avenging Angel"

12,000 Test runs for Joe Root, which means he passes Brian Lara to move into seventh on the all-time list.

Brilliant from wood today , nothing better than a fast bowler honing in on the stumps , and spearing them back 8 yards ( as measured out by Stokes )

Not just the 💯 Franchise buit the actual Cricket Club thus a foreign ownership body will be in receipt of a handout from ECB central funding but a say in the future of English Cricket to boot.

THe game is bulidfing its funeral pyre.😡

On the face of it, that seems like a really poor deal for the Indians. £120 million for a 51% stake seemingly values the club at a quarter of a billion which seems ridiculous for a loss-making business with a turnover of a few million.

Looking a bit closer, it seems that the reported figure includes paying off £60 million in debt and separately acquiring the Rose Bowl complex which obviously includes the hotel and golf course. Given that this was all owned by Rod Bransgrove, I'm not sure there was much the ECB or anyone else could do about it.

Which other county clubs are owned by individuals rather than their members? Durham is one, are there any others?

Feels like it's a purchase of a venue, hotel and golf course with some cricket opportunities attached.

Lancashire are membership owned but, similarly, seem to be the one most likely to be bought by outside interests for similar reasons. They seem to be saying they can be sold without member approval anyway.

At least it's a purchase by a Cricketing organisation of sorts, and not some property-developer mate of Moscow Bob Jenrick's, who just wants to turn it into luxury flats and fob the club off with a shoddy new home miles out of town.

Hampshire has value for cricket basically because in a franchise league, you can stick your imports in that hotel. Does make sense for IPL franchises who want to keep control of their players.

Looks like Stokes is out of the test series with Sri Lanka depending upon the severity of his hamstring injury playing in the Crisp league.

Also coming up is a home one day series with Australia followed by a tour of Pakistan.

Let’s hope the wonders of modern science can bring him back soon.

Stokes commits to every game he plays and he probably plays too many given how many injuries he's had. He didn't need to be playing in The Hundred but, TBH, that would likely have happened whatever tournament he was playing in.

Yes, I agree.

I’m not trying to blame the crisp league for it.

The professional players are going to follow the money all things being equal.

Could we see the lesser spotted Sam Curran again ? Or move Woakes up a place . Stokes ( fully fit ) gives a tremendous , almost unique balance
