'Tour de France' had to be Wigan

They started the ball rolling 11th April 2006 at Aime Giral (11,122) for Catalans debut. Twice too to Monpellier later one at the rugby unions ground Stade Yves  du Manoir(9,372) and the to the soccer clubs patch at Stade Mosson ( 13,856). Who will ever forget Nou Camp and Barcelona with a record crowd (31,555).

They had to be the one club too ready to break new ground with their 'Tour de France' in 2022 playing Toulouse one Saturday and Catalans following weekend. Fans can either choose one game or make it two. Wonderful.

For people who've been to watch Toulouse from up north, is there a workaround or do you have to chose between a change over and going from a London airport?

Either fly to Carcassonne and get the train or there are direct flights from Bristol to Toulouse

Or Bordeaux isn’t far either.

Now Bordeaux is a lovely city IMHO, even better if you can combine a match with the Wine Festival. Carcassonne has it’s own magic too. I think that if people are prepared to either hire cars or work out transport then they can have some great breaks in the wonderful cities of the South of France whilst also taking in a match (hopefully involving their team.) A schedule involving Catalans away followed by Toulouse away would be just awesome. What a holiday that would be!

For me it's a pity that these two Wigan games are in March... if they were in the summer months I would look to take the family to France for the week, take in both games and spend the days in between in cities/and or the beach but I probably won't do this in March.

I'm very surprised that the two French derbies are on a Thursday. Especially as good Friday isn't a bank holiday in France.

The Easter game has been selected by Sky so it's on a Thursday. Presumably Sky are paying for the filming as they said this will be done for all SL games as part of the new TV deal.

It may be Toulouse have also been given advance notice that the August one will be selected too and it's a game they want to sell out so have fixed the date early.

Catalans v Wigan at Aime Giral was actually 11 February 2006.

But Wigan's 'name' is the one French fans appear most attracted to.

I've been thinking about this, as there's games on the Easter Monday, it would mean they'd have to  play Friday night as it's not a holiday here,

So even less rest.

That being the case, the real questions are:

Why schedule the derby for that round? Surely the derbies could have been on the Easter Monday.

Why are there two SL games in four days anyway?
